The show, set in 1970s Miami, tells the story of Blanco’s rise in the dr*g world, but it’s got some parts that aren’t sitting well with the Blanco family. They’re suing Vergara and Netflix, saying they didn’t have permission to use their family’s image in the show.
According to a lawsuit initially acquired byTMZ, the Blanco family isn’t just talking about it; they’ve taken legal action to attempt to stop the show from airing.
They argue that even though Griselda is a public figure, Netflix shouldn’t have used their family’s likeness without asking, and they’re also upset that they weren’t compensated for it.
Michael Corleone Blanco, Blanco’s son, says he gave interviews for another project, butGriseldaused them without giving him credit or payment. He’s not pleased, and he says the show is disrespectful to his family. He revealed toFox News,
“Sofía Vergara did not consult with any members of the Blanco family as a sign of respect or elicit family details in portraying my mother.”
Further, he expressed,
“When I learned of the ‘Griselda’ project, my team reached out to Sofia’s camp and offered my consultation services. Sofia’s camp and the Netflix creators were disrespectful and ultimately produced the ‘Griselda’ project on their own for commercial gain, without key details from the Blanco family.”
Michael even sent a warning to Netflix and Vergara’s team to stop, but they didn’t listen. He said,
“Netflix nor Sofia’s camp has made any attempt to reconcile…I am Griselda’s only living son that has life rights agreements signed by Griselda herself in which she intended I carry out her life story.”
And it’s not just the lawsuit. The Blanco family is also criticizing the show for making Vergara look bad, saying it’s an unfair portrayal.

He finds it offensive when people call Vergara’s portrayal“ugly,”emphasizing that his mother was quite beautiful.He stated,
“My mother was a beautiful woman and it’s crazy that a lot of people say No, you’ve got to look more like a dr*g addict’ … The fact that they call her ugly that really offends me.”
According to him, misconceptions about Griselda’s appearance stem from images taken after her years in prison, but his book tells the real story. Blanco said,
“People see the mug shots and just go from that. But when you read my book, you’ll see thatmy mother was called the porcelain doll in her youth.”
Michael wants people to understand that his mother was not just a dr*g addict. Despite spending over two decades in jail, she remained a star and queen in his eyes.
