After completely shattering the internet earlier this week, theGrand Theft Auto 6trailer has been analyzed, broken down frame by frame, and re-watched hundreds of times. Now the latest theory suggests that the trailer was actually supposed to be watched in reverse to understand Lucia’s story.

The trailer begins with what is assumed to be one of our two protagonists, Lucia. The opening line, which is sure to become another iconic moment in gaming, is Lucia being asked if she knows why she’s in prison. To which she replies “bad luck, I guess.” We then see some visually stunning shots of Vice City before a few glimpses at Lucia and Jason’s criminal antics.

Let’s Put It In Reverse

Reddit userHurdennwas the first to bring attention to the theory, publishing snippets of the trailer in reverse over on the Grand Theft Auto 6 subreddit. The post has gained over 4,600 upvotes at the time of writing, with many fascinated by the theory.

In the users' pieced-together clip, Lucia and Jason are seen robbing a convenience store and fleeing from the police. The trailer then ultimately ends where it started, with Lucia locked up in prison. But things get really interesting when pieced together with another theory: Jason is actually an undercover cop and was the reason Lucia was arrested. Others believe that the trailer only consists of a flashback, similar to the opening of Grand Theft Auto 5.

There’s no way to know for certain whether or not the theory is correct, but it certainly seems plausible. For now, we’ll likely need to wait until mid-2024 for a second trailer, as the timeframe between Rockstar Games trailer is usually around 7 months.

However, Take Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games, has released apress releasesurrounding the new trailer. The press release details Grand Theft Auto 6’s return to the “neon-soaked streets of Vice City” whilst also calling it the “most immersive evolution of the Grand Theft Auto series yet.” For all the currently confirmed details for Grand Theft Auto 6, make sure to check out Take Two Interactive’s press release, linked above.
