Supernaturalhas a slew of characters that fans have a lot of fun seeing on screen, having their character arcs played out to satisfaction by the show’s brilliant writing. While Sam, Dean, and Castiel are important parts of the show, being almost synonymous with it, there is one other character that fans believe the show could not have survived without.
Introduced in Season Five, fifteen years ago, Mark Sheppard essayed the role of Crowley, a demon who would aid the Winchesters on multiple occasions, and also serve as their antagonist, plotting his way to take Lucifer’s spot as the King of Hell.

Crowley as a character was introduced for the first time in the tenth episode of the fifth season. Ever since then, with Sheppard’s charismatic performance carrying the character, Crowley has managed to be quite the ally and the adversary to the Winchesters, seemingly pulling out wins from the most dire of situations.Mark Sheppardplayed the character to perfection, creating a persona that could be compared to the MCU’s Loki, except with a little more integrity.

An antagonist who keeps appearing in the show again and again, Crowley left quite the mark on viewers, many of whom have hailed him as a welcome addition to the show, giving it a boost at a time when the show was falling back on its gimmicks to stay afloat. The character was largely considered to be one of the toughest antagonists that the Winchesters faced, albeit the character functioned more like an anti-villain compared to other threats that the Winchester brothers dealt with.

The Winchesters have faced a lot of enemies. There have definitely been antagonists who are stronger and more powerful than Crowley, but the sheer craftiness that Crowley displays makes him one of the most well-crafted villains that the Winchesters encounter.

Not only do the Winchesters have a hard time killing Crowley, but the demon himself finds himself in possession of multiple weapons that can slay angels. Despite this, Dean has a knack for reducing the character to being a simple crossroads demon. Perhaps it’s this underestimation of the King of Hell that gets the Winchesters in a tough spot when facing Crowley.
Crowley represents the best that the show has to offer in terms of antagonists for the Winchesters. If there were to be a fourth character that fans could identify with the show, apart from Dean, Sam, and Castielle, Crowley would be a great candidate to fill the spot, being one of the most recurring demons in the show to cross paths with the Winchesters again and again.
