Hannah Foell worked in Santa Monica Studio, the developers behind the widely renownedGod of Warfranchise, for six years, but just recently, she announced her departure to the Japanese video game titanNintendo, where she hopes to foster partnerships with AAA publishers and developers.RELATED:Microsoft Enters 10-Year Commitment To Bring Call Of Duty To Nintendo SwitchHer role in thePlayStation-owned Santa Monica Studio was no small feat. She was Gameplay Producer from 2016 to 2022, mostly working on the highly acclaimedGod of War Ragnaroktitle that released this year, as that began development in 2018. Her responsibilities included managing gameplay production pipelines with the lead developers, managing the creation of the gameplay combat features, and communicating production updates with senior management.

In any major AAA game development cycle, production management can be just as important as design, art, or music, as game creation gets complicated with so many cooks in the kitchen working on a game’s different aspects simultaneously. Foell’s credit is undoubtedly a valuable one, as God of War Ragnarok is one of the most critically acclaimed games of the year, partly because of its gameplay, even winning Best Action/Adventure game of the year at theGame Awards.

Her experience in AAA production makes her a solid fit for her new role as Senior Manager of Partner Management over at Nintendo. As she wrote onTwitter, she’s to join the “3rd party team” at Nintendo of America, and she’s to “drive developer and publisher relationships,” specifically referring to “AAA developers.” Someone like her would be well-equipped to discuss production details with potential AAA partners looking to put their games onNintendo Switch.

Throughout the Switch generation, Nintendo has had its fair share of third-party AAA games, likeThe Witcher 3, andDoom(2016), but the pool has been rather shallow, simply due to the console’s underwhelming performance power, compared to the other major platforms,Xboxand PlayStation. Many fans hope for the Switch’s successor to have much stronger hardware, which would likely result in more AAA third-party titles becoming available to Nintendo players.
