Asone of the most acclaimed games of 2018,God of Wardrew players in with a new take on the long-running franchise thanks to its emotionally-driven story and the exceptional relationship between Kratos and his son, Atreus. A good deal of that dynamic was motivated by the father-son relationship experienced by director Cory Barlog, and while some fans of the game might have hoped that we might see more from the game in the form of DLC or an expansion, it appears that might be unlikely for the time being.

Speaking withKinda Funnyin an interview, Barlog gave a bit more insight in regard to the common fan question of whetherGod of Warmight be receiving any sort of additional story content in the future, either in the form of DLC or a larger, standalone expansion in the vein ofThe Last of Us: Left BehindorUncharted: The Lost Legacy.

Specifically, Barlog explained that he had “a really fun idea for a DLC” in mind forGod of War, though added shortly after that ultimately, he felt that plans for the DLC had become “too ambitious” for the scope of a standalone chapter in the story, and that it would “have to be its own thing” to be fully realized. Barlog also added that other team members from Santa Monica Studio felt that attempting DLC on the scale that he imagined would be “crazy” and that it was “a little too big.”

While ultimately Barlog’s plans for DLC or any kind of future expansion toGod of Warseems to have been put to rest for now, Barlog did state that he was content with the overall release of the game and in giving players a complete story from beginning to end, other than the small gripe that he had with releasing the game’s photo mode and new game plus features after release, instead of with the game’s launch.

Given the way thatGod of Warended, it’s certainly not surprising to see how Barlog’s initial visions for DLC might have expanded beyond what we might expect from either DLC or a standalone expansion. However, while we might not get an expansion for the game any time soon, it at least seems like there is plenty of material and story for Barlog and the rest of his team to work on for the next chapter in Kratos and Atreus' journey.
