For years, theGod Eaterseries has been a staple on platforms like the PSP and PS Vita. Now, withGod Eater 3the series is dropping its handheld roots for a more refined console title on PS4 and PC. In an interview withIGN, members of the development team commented on fans' desire to see the game brought to a handheld device, more particularly the Switch.
When asked about a Nintendo Switch portGod Eaterproducer Yusuke Tomizawa said:
“After the announcement, we heard a lot of people saying that they wanted God Eater on portable systems. As I mentioned earlier, God Eater 3 exists on the PS4/PC in the way that it does because we prioritized brushing up the quality. I feel like it’s necessary for us to listen to what the users have to say, including those on the Nintendo Switch.”
The producer ofGod Eater 3,Yuya Tomiyama, also gave his two cents saying:
“There are plenty of people who can’t use their TVs to play games when they’re at home, and we consistently have requests from those people come in. So, we’re cognizant of it to be sure.”
Given publisher Bandai Namco’s successes on the Nintendo Switch with games likeDark Souls: Remastered, Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition, Dragon Ball FighterZ, Katamari Damacy Reroll, and more, I think it’s definitely possible we’ll seeGod Eater 3brought to the handheld-console hybrid at some point.
If you’re unfamiliar withGod Eater,it’s an action RPG similar to Capcom’sMonster Hunterseries. While the general gameplay loop is very similar there are some things that differentiateGod Eaterfrom other games in the genre. It’s aesthetic is easily its most notable difference. Additionally, instead of cutting off monster parts you’ll devour them. Furthermore, the gameplay is not nearly as heavy as theMonster Hunterseries, it’s a solid alternative.
God Eater 3is coming to PS4 and PC on February 8. We’ll be sure to update you if we get a Nintendo Switch version at some point, but for now, we’ll just have to wait and see. You can check out thelatest trailerforGod Eater 3and expect our review in the coming days.
