From what we have seen so far ofGears of War: E-Day, The Coalition will take the game back to its defining qualities: grit and gore. But there is more to these games than simply pulling a trigger and watching things evaporate in a crimson mist.
The overarching story of all the games shows how humanity has been pushed to the brink. However, the oppressors changed in the series, with the first three games featuring the Locusts and the fourth and fifth featuring the Swarm. But this has caused a shift in player sentiment for the game too!
Gears of War 5 Changed the Course of the Series Away from Horror
The first three games in the series had some subtle and tasteful elements of horror that many fans of the franchise enjoyed. However, the last two majorGears of Wartitles didn’t focus so much on the horror elements, much to the fans’ disappointment.
Reddit user dylfree90 posted recently on the game’s subreddit, sharing their experience withGears 5. While they agree that many of the community’s criticisms are valid they enjoyed the game.

Despite the hit-or-miss style of characterization, many responses to the post spoke about how the games no longer had the original appeal.

Many fans hope thatGears of War: E-Daycan bring the series backto how it began, but many harbor worry that it might end up as just a generic sixth installment.
Some feel that the game mechanics lacked impact, which held back the immersion.

The upcoming prequel to the entire series will show the most important event in the series. So, it’s understandable that fans wantGears of War: E-Dayto delve deep into the history and lore of the Locust society, giving us a new look at some of the most formidable enemies in the series.

The next title is slated for launch sometime next year, with no definite window provided yet. One thing is for certain: the game has a lot riding on it, and expectations are going to be very high. The Coalition needs to come through with the title not just for the franchise but also for the future of Xbox.
