Usually, typos and human errors don’t cause as much as havoc you’d otherwise expect them to. Unless you’re GameStop and manage to choose the worst time to write ‘Microsoft‘ instead of ‘Xbox‘ right behind Game Pass.
This little error has caused quite an uproar recently, with fans screaming out their doubts about what Microsoft plans to do with the subscription model (and anything related to exclusivity). To add to this, the PlayStation cross-platform rumors aren’t helping to calm the storm down.
From ‘Xbox’ to ‘Microsoft’ Game Pass, a single typo shook the community
Recently, GameStop confidently posted a few images and details about Xbox Game Pass, but made the error of writing ‘Microsoft Game Pass‘. Right after this, users online started panicking over the possibility that Microsoft was truly going all-out with its subscription model and making things cross-platform.

The type was fixed, of course, but the panic wasn’t. People have been speculating whether or not this was intentional, or whether Microsoft actually has plans for something that gamers aren’t aware of. Recently, Phil Spencer mentioned a soon-to-happen meeting that would discuss the future of the same, and ever since, gamers have been patiently waiting to understand Microsoft’s roadmap for the future.
While there’s no official news about the same, there is a small chance that Xbox will see games and consoles become available to a larger gamer audience across the globe, and Gamestop might just have prepared the community for a reality they would have otherwise anticipated.

This little type reflected something that was otherwise lingering in the psyches of many gamers worldwide. Especially with how people view third-party platforms and the existence of competing subscription services like PlayStation Plus. Furthermore, the possibility of having Microsoft bring out games that aren’t restricted to one platform as such.

Ever since the launch of Series S/X, Game Pass has been a big part of Microsoft’s marketing with regard to everything it plans on doing with the industry going forward. From the purchase of multiple studios to ownership over AI tools and patents, the company has been trying its best to stay at the front of everything. Unfortunately, the plans seem to be too open-ended for gamers to ideally wrap their heads around.
When thingsaren’t made as clearand fail to have a solid direction in mind, typos/errors from the likes of GameStop and half-baked announcements from Phil Spencer put the community in a place of speculation and rumors. This doesn’t put any gamer in a place of well-rooted optimism, especially those who grew up playing phenomenal exclusives likeHalo,Forza,andGears of War.
While fans of both the big consoles eagerly wait for more news, there’s little the community can do to make things more certain. We can maybe start off by not panicking at the mishaps of bigger companies if that’s a possibility at all.
