The Five Nights at Freddy’s games, lovingly pronounced as FNAF by its strong online community, are a series of jump-scare indie horror games by creator Scott Cawthon. Drawing inspiration from classic kids' restaurants with animatronic entertainment, such as Chuck E. Cheese, the games tell a haunting tale, as the animal-shaped animatronics — whether possessed by the spirits of murdered children or simplyprogrammed to be evil— come alive at night and attempt to kill the security guard or anyone else foolish enough to be there after hours.

The book, titled The Official Five Nights at Freddy’s Cookbook: An AFK Book will contain more than 40 recipes inspired by the FNAF series, according to its officialproduct page on Amazon. Selling in hardcover form for $19.99 or on Kindle for $12.99, the Amazon page lists the names of some of the recipes, which will range from “Fredbear’s Pepperoni X-Press and Chica’s Ultimate Chicken Burger, to Foxy’s Cover Coolor and El Chip’s Nachos.” Asreported by CBR.com, Cawthon gave his permission for a cookbook based on his games to be published back in July of 2020.
As a video game series, Five Nights at Freddy’s released its original game in August 2014. Four numbered sequels, each with its own unique mechanics and characters, followed over the course of the next two years, and several other games came after the numbered sequels. Included among the more recent games are a pizzeria business simulator (which maintains a lot of the mechanics and horror aspects of the original titles), a VR anthology, and an augmented reality mobile game. The much more mainstreamFive Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach, is the most recent title in the series, having released in 2021.
Scholastic’s AFK brand publishes books aimed at gamer kids, including novelizations and how-to books from franchises such asOverwatch,Hello Neighbor, andRoblox. It also has an extensive series of Five Nights at Freddy’s novels and graphic novels, all written at least in part by Cawton himself.
