Square Enix has given fans an early holiday treat today by releasing the launch trailer for Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII- Reunion, a remake of the original PSP game that will release next month on PC and consoles.
In the new trailer, the members of SOLDIER 1st Class, Zack Fair, Angeal Hewley, Sephiroth and the new recruit Cloud Strife are seen fighting against the evil SOLDIER defector, Genesis Rhapsodos, and other byproducts of the Jenova Project. This project, helmed by the Shinra Company which SOLDIER mercenaries work for paves the way to creating many key antagonists across all the Final Fantasy VII series entries. Included in the trailer are the most important moments in Zack’s life inside SOLDIER until his eventual death, which transforms Cloud’s life and leads him to become the person we meet at the start of the original Final Fantasy VII.

Crisis Core is known amongJRPGsfor its utilization of the Digital Mind Wave system, and a glimpse of it can be seen in the trailer as a slot with reels displayed in the upper left corner of the battle screen. The reels automatically rotate and stop by consuming special points, and various effects can be obtained depending on how the patterns and numbers are aligned when stopped, like invincibility or critical attacks. The uniqueness of this system is that it allows you to win against formidable enemies and reverse the situation even if the odds do not seem to be in your favor.
The enhanced quality of the work is also shown throughout the trailer. It is now possible to move the camera angle during battle, and dash in the field. Battles are also more accessible with the added ability to use potions at the press of a button and weaken your opponent’s special skills before you damage them. Rather than simply making the graphics HD, the 3D models of the characters have been remade from scratch, and the game is now fully voice-acted. It now feels very similar to theFinal Fantasy 7 Remake, and those who are interested in the remake project can use this game as the perfect entry point.
Crisis Core - Final Fantasy VII - Reunion will release on June 21, 2025 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
