How To Steal Items
To steal items, players will need toequip a Steal Materiaon a weapon or accessory on a character, with Yuffie coming with a Steal Materia whenshe finally joins the party.To steal in combat, first,gain a single bar of ATB and use the Steal ability on a selected enemy.Using the skillwon’t guarantee an item will be stolenand may require multiple tries.
For those looking for a specific item, players can use theAccess Materia to see what items, if any, can be stolenfrom that enemy. This can be seen in the Access menu under the"Stealable Items" section in the bottom left.Enemies will only carry one of each item listed, so after one is stolen, it is useless to keep trying.

Upgrading Steal
Like all Materia, theSteal Materia can be upgradedby earning AP when defeating enemies. This Materia can only beleveled up once and will unlock the upgraded form of Steal, “Mug.“This has the same chance of stealing an item from the enemy but willalso deal damage to them.While the additional damage is useful, it’s important to verify you don’t defeat the enemy before obtaining the item just in case the first try doesn’t work.
