Final Fantasy 16takes place in the land of Valisthea. Valistha has six major realms fighting for power and will be major players throughout the game’s story. Each of these realms has its own beliefs that will come into play when trying to free the bearers of that realms.

Bearers are looked down on throughout every realm, with some treating them slightly better and others treat them much worse. These realms also fight over control of Eikons that are then used to wage war against the other realms, and we’ll cover which realm has which Eikon at the beginning of the game.
The Grand Duchy Of Rosaria
The Grand Duchy Of Rosaria is the realm our main character Clive is from. TheDuchy has the Eikon of Fire, Phoenix,held byJoshua Rosfield, and has built its society around its flames. Itssoldiers are known as Shields, tasked with guarding the Phoenix, its flames, and Rosaria. The Duchy isled by the Rosfield family, with Elwin as the current head and leader.Rosaria and the Duchy are located in thewestern region of Valisthea.
Bearers are treated as slaves in Rosaria but are treated better than in other realms. They areat least seen as people but still are at the bottom of societyand given menial tasks working under a master.
The Kingdom Of Waloed
Waloed is located on Ash, theeastern continent of Valisthea.It is the only realm on that side of Valisthea and sails over The Narrow to fight for land on the western half. Waloed isled by the dominant of Odin, Barnabas Tharmr.The land of Ash may not have any neighbors to wage war with, but it ispopulated with Orcs and other beastmenthat keep Waloed from being a peaceful land.

Due to Waloed’s isolation,little is known about the societal structuresof the kingdom. Waloed is often only seen on the battlefield when they sail over to join in other ongoing wars, rarely taking in visitors to their Kingdom.
The Dhalmekian Republic
The Dhalmekian Republic is made up ofmany smaller states that came together to be led by a single council.This Republic consolidated its forces to become a major realm in Valesthia, taking up much of the land to the south. The Republic is also a massive center for trade throughout Valesthia, withmoney and power giving one a higher status in the realm.
Apart from the council,Hugo Kupka is the dominant of Titan, whose power as a dominant elevated his status in the Republic greatly. Within the Republic, Bearers aren’t treated well and are seen as resources to be used or traded.
The Holy Empire Of Sanbreque
The Holy Empire of Sanbreque is located in thenorthern regions of Valisthea, with the center of their Empire the capital Oriflamme. This Kingdom isled by an emperor who the people believe to be the reincarnation of a deityin human form, here to lead their people.Dion Lesage, son of the emperor, is the Dominant of Bahamutand the champion of the Empire.

In the Empire, bearers are treated terribly. Many of the citizenssee them as less than human,and work them to death doing menial tasks, often in the fields to provide food for the Empire. Bearers are often worked to death, with their masters simply replacing the now-dead bearer with another.
The Iron Kingdom
The Iron Kingdom is agroup of islands located on the western coast of Valisthea. The Iron Kingdomfollows the Crystalline Orthodox, a religious belief that worships crystals and their power. TheIron Kingdom speaks their own language, further secluding them from the other realms, as they are oftenonly seen in battle with little contact with the other realms.
The Iron Kingdoms' worship of Crystals makes them despise dominants, asthey are immediately executedwhen born on the islands. While bearers are executed,dominants are kept as slaves due to their use in war.
The Crystalline Dominion
The Crystalline Dominion falls in the center of Valisthea, making its strategic location invaluable. While this location was fought over for years, itnow stands as its own realm, led by a council of representatives from each of the major realmsminus the Iron Kingdom. The Dominion stands indifferent in thewars of the realmandhas an armistice with each of the other realms.The Crystalline Dominion doesn’t aim to grow its land or gain power but simplystands as a point of neutrality in the war-torn world.
