Although comedy is a common category in related arts, such as cinema, it has not penetrated video games with the same magnitude and quality.

However, theBorderlandsseries has become an icon of satire within the interactive medium, also representing thelooter shooter subgenrethanks to its magnificent FPS format with RPG elements.

New Tales From The Borderlands Robot

Gearbox Software’s creation isglorious for playing cooperatively and solo, especially thanks to a wonderful universe that has provided enough content for multiple installments.

Today, the franchise is established as one of the most relevant in the video game industry and, personally, one of my favorites, so here I present youa list of every Borderlands game ranked from worst to best.

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands' Tina with an axe.

7New Tales from the Borderlands

The Weakest Entry

New Tales From the Borderlands

In the world of unnecessary sequels, I’m afraid I have to includeNew Tales from the Borderlands, a game that seeks to continue its predecessor’s success but isn’t able to do it justice.

After Telltale’s magnificent work withTales from the Borderlands, Gearbox tried to continue with the formula, giving us a title that, while entertaining,is far from being as innovative and engaging as the series has accustomed us to.

I wouldn’t say it’s a poor game, butit’s the weakestBorderlands. Its characters and sense of humor are good, though the experience fails to hold its own in any of the other areas.

6Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands

Fun But Lukewarm

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands

As a fan of theBorderlandsseries, I must admitTiny Tina’s Wonderlandsdisappointed me a little.

While I consider it a good game, it suffers from the opposite ofNew Tales from the Borderlands, in thateverything related to the plot and its characters is lukewarm.

In terms of gameplay, its fusion with the concepts of Dungeons and Dragons is excellent, favoring new concepts and ideas that fit well with the series' formula.

However, these lose steam as the campaign advances, suffering from repetitiveness while lacking the characters and sense of humor that often balance the scale in other entries in the franchise.

It’s a very fun titlebuta step below the quality of the mainBorderlandsinstallments.

5Borderlands

A Great Start

Borderlands

Besides being a good video game, the firstBorderlandswas the beginning of the whole phenomenon. Itsinnovative and unexpected naturegives it a quality no other installment of the series has.

10 Best Borderlands Vault Hunters

The world of Borderlands is full of brave and adventurous Vault Hunters. Which of them can truly stand toe to toe with the mysteries that lie inside?

Of course, its first-timer condition also explains the room for improvement it presents, as it has rough gunplay and a mission and level design that can become annoying.

However, its comedic capacities, characters, and artistic style are more than enough to tolerate any rookie mistakes Gearbox Software presented with its development.

Therefore,Borderlandsis agreat introduction to FPSand a transcendental work for its feat of creating an entire subgenre.

4Tales from the Borderlands

An Exemplary Spin-off

Tales From The Borderlands

During the unexpected renaissance of point-and-click adventures in the early 2010s, Telltale Games capitalized on this withTales from the Borderlands, a greatseries spin-off thatdeserved a better sequel.

The developer crafted a hilarious and engaging story by including iconic characters and delving deeper into the franchise’s already outstanding universe.

If you are a player who values gameplay above all else, I wouldn’t recommend it, but if you can get past its mechanical limitations, it’s easy to fall in love with it.

In fact,I dare say it’s Telltale’s most refined work, not only for its quality but also for what it means for the franchise it belongs to.

I know it’s bold to say so, given the existence of other notable works from the studio, but that reflects its remarkable quality.

3Borderlands 3

The Ultimate Refinement

Borderlands 3

As one of thebest co-op FPS games of all time,Borderlands 3is a remarkable experience that takes everything that characterizes the series to its fullest.

The 10 Hardest Bosses In The Borderlands Series

From the Ancient Dragons of Destruction to Voracidous The Invincible, these are the hardest bosses you’re able to find in The Borderlands Series.

Except for the antagonists, who are the weakest of all the main entries, the game is an overall improvement. The shooting, mobility, missions, bosses, and loot are the most notable in the entire series.

The only reason it’s not higher on the list is because, from a narrative perspective, the game plays it very safe in many respects, and there were (and still are) quite a few technical hiccups to endure.

While playing,I felt like it was merely more Borderlands. This is great, of course, but given it’s a spirited franchise, I was hoping Gearbox Software would dare to do something bolder.

2Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel

I’m Not Kidding

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel!

I know this is sacrilege within the community, but I’m not afraid to be one of the few defenders ofBorderlands: The Pre-Sequel!as an amazing game.

Just knowing more about Handsome Jack already puts it above average, as he’s one of the most memorable characters in video game history, and the game gives him a well-deserved development.

10 Video Game Villains We Love To Hate

What is a hero without a villain?

If you consider its verticality because of zero gravity, superb atmosphere, memorable scenes, and the complexity it adds to a series that was by then simple, you understand why it’s a splendid sequel.

I recognize its mistakes and the reason for its ratings, but I value the experiments ofBorderlands: The Pre-Sequel!greater than the solid linearity ofBorderlands 3.

1Borderlands 2

The Perfect Sequel

Borderlands 2

Few franchises in the world have such a strong bias towards what their best game is asBorderlands, whose most outstanding work is undeniablyBorderlands2.

If you think about all the elements that represent Gearbox Software’s masterpiece,it’s hard forBorderlands 2not to be the greatest of each of them. In terms of gameplay, characters, story, comedy, audiovisual, and even emotions, it’s the series' prime without question.

The title takes everything that made the firstBorderlandsan interesting game and elevates it, improving thenon-stop violenceto the maximum and establishing it as a reference for the whole genre.

Thus,Borderlands 2is a perfect sequel and one of the best of all time. So, calling it the bestBorderlandsis just acknowledging the obvious, as no other adventure in the series will make you laugh and have fun like this one.
