Just after the release,Astro Bothas already started winning everyone’s hearts. This PlayStation 5 exclusive 3D platformer has been released on June 03, 2025. This game is the direct sequel toAstro’s Playroomand overall the third game of the series.

Astro’s Playroomwas just a tech survey for the DualSense controller, and the game was included in every PlayStation 5 back then. However, its sequel is a full-fledged title with 80 levels in Astro’s universe. That is how the game is getting so much love around the world. But the problem is that Nintendo fans might not be very happy about it.
Astro Bot vs Super Mario Odyssey – A Meaningless Comparison
After the huge success ofAstro Bot, there have been some huge debates. Being a 3D platformer, weird comparisons have begun between the new PlayStation 5 exclusive title and a hugely popular game of a legendary franchise,Super Mario Odyssey. The platformer from Team Asobi has notched up a huge score of 94 on Metacritic, which in turn fueled the agony among Nintendo fans to bring up the Metascore to 97.

Astro Botis based on its own universe with PlayStation characters and environment. Whereas,Super Mario Odysseyis based on the typical Mario universe. So, it can’t be said that the former is a“copy”of the latter.
“Maybe Microsoft will finally get off their as* and do something with their Banjo and Conker”: Astro Bot Should be a Big Enough Reason For Microsoft to Bring Back Its Forgotten IPs That Fans Are Begging For
Genuinely,Odysseyis a great game on its own, and it needs no biased comparison to showcase its glory. And for PlayStation, the recently launched title is getting huge love from other platform users as well, not only from Team PlayStation. With this huge success, thegame might eventually become the Game of the Year in 2024too.
Astro Bot Is Winning Everyone’s Hearts
The huge success ofAstro Botcircles around one major aspect: the inclusion of over 150 characters from popular and legendary PlayStation characters likeApe Escape,Ratchet & Clank,God of War,and many more.
The predecessor of the game, Astro’s Playroom, was just a free tech demo that everyone enjoyed. Now having a full game in Astro’s universe that too, with all the nostalgic characters along with the classic PlayStation vibe, has definitely brought tears to the long-standing users of this console.

“You have to be very careful about the world”: God of War’s Cory Barlog Gave His Personal Vote of Approval for What Astro Bot Did With Kratos in the Game
The game is set in the background of an incident where Astro’s DualSense Spaceship will be torn apart (in the form of PlayStation gaming equipment) as every piece will be scattered across the universe. Now, this cute, tiny character will embark on a journey to find all the pieces.
It’s true both of them are 3D platformers, and healthy comparisons can be done. But the way things are getting out of hand, it should be stopped immediately, and enjoying both games is the best choice.

What’s your opinion on this baseless comparison? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section.
