In the wake ofEpic Games StoreandFortnite’s launch on mobile, the company’s CEOTim Sweeney has revealed the cost of their legal struggle against Apple and Google.
New Rumor Suggests Xbox Exclusive Forza Is Coming to PS5
Ahead of Gamescom, a new rumor suggests Xbox Exclusive Forza is coming to PlayStation 5.
In a recent interview withGame File,Sweeney saidthatEpic Gameshas probably lost over a billion dollars of revenue since 2020, which marks the beginning of the tech giant’s battle against two titans.

Alongside missing out on revenue, Epic Games has also spent hundreds of millions on legal fees. More than three years after the battle, Epic Games Store and, of course,Fortnite,is now available on iOS and Androidwith some caveats.
Both the store and the tech giant’s colossal titles are available on iOS devices within the European Union. This means that iOS users who want to playFortniteor use the storefront in the US and UK will have to wait a bit longer. However,Epic Games and its colossal titles are available worldwide for Android users.

Sweeney says that seeingFortnite,Rocket LeagueSideswipe, andFall Guys' new mobile version on iOS devices in Europe is a great milestone. Though he believes that the fight is still far from over.
It’s currently unknown when Epic Games Store and its gameswill be available on iOS devicesin the US and the UK as well.

While you’re able to now install Epic Games Store on both mobile operating systems,Sweeney says that Apple and Google have intentionally implemented poor-quality install processes and scare-screens.Once you get through them though, you can play Fornite and other Epic Games hits on the go.
A Billion Dollars Is A Small Price To Pay, Says Sweeney
Sweeney remains upbeat about the whole situation and has few regrets about beginning this long legal dispute. He states:
“If we spent a billion dollars so far, that’s a small price to pay for the future freedom of our company and of all the others who want to participate in the market,”

In 2020,Apple removed Fortnite from iOS devicesas Epic Games tried to avoid paying Apple’s 30% tax on all apps through various methods.
This started a long-running dispute between the industry giants, resulting in lawsuits and countersuits.Epic Games also filed a lawsuit against Google back in August 2020, to fight against its 30% revenue cut.
After a myriad of legal events, Epic Games Store and its games have now returned to iOS devices registered in countries within the European Union. Android owners, on the other hand, can dive into Fortniteand use the store without any regional restrictions.
