Ever since the days ofDemon’s Souls, FromSoftware titles have had collectible items that have worked as both a currency and as experience points for your character to level up.
Following in its footsteps, we got Runes inElden Ring, which worked in the same way as Souls or Blood Echoes before them. But with Nightreign, there is a new sheriff in town—at least for buying items in Roundtable Hold.

This currency is none other than Murk. What separates it from its predecessors is that this time, you get to keep it no matter what happens in a run. Don’t worry, Runes haven’t gone anywhere and still work pretty much the same as they did in the original game.
Elden Ring Nightreign Performance Modes From Network Test Revealed
Elden Ring will be able to run at a crisp 60 frames-per-second on all consoles.
However, if you want to make the most out of your expeditions, you will need to use relics, and that is where this Murk currency comes in. So, here is how Murk works in Elden Ring Nightreign, and all the different ways through which you can get and use it.

What Is Murk?
Murk is a currency in Elden Ring Nightreignthat you can earn from expeditions. This is separate from runes, because one is used during your expedition, and the other is used after.
The main difference between Runes and Murk is that the latter is a permanent currency, meanwhile the former disappears once your run is over. So, every time you start an expedition, you have tofarm Runesfrom scratch.

Want to spice things up the next time you play Elden Ring? Here are 10 fun ways to make your next playthrough different.
Another major difference is that, unlikeRunes, which you can use for buying various items from the Merchant or for leveling up,Murk is something that you can only use at the Roundtable Hold to prepare for your future expeditions by spending it to obtain new relics.

How To Get Murk In Elden Ring Nightreign
The only way to earn Murk is by completing expeditions. The good news is that you get some amount of Murk even if you fail the expedition entirely. But the important thing is, you shouldn’t abandon the run, or you won’t get anything.
The amount of Murk you earn depends on various factors, but the biggest one is how far you progress. Getting defeated on Day 1 will give you the least amount of Murk. Meanwhile, successfully completing an expedition gives you the most Murk.

Another factor that comes into play is your contributions throughout the run. Finally, the Nightlord that you defeat can also affect the amount of Murk you get. For example, upon defeating the first Nightlord, I got 1,818 Murk. Meanwhile, the third boss dropped 2,288 Murk.
So, while there isn’t a defined number, your goal should be to defeat the Nightlords, with the more difficult options leading to potentially larger payouts.
How To Use Murk In Elden Ring Nightreign
There are two main uses of Murk: the first is for buying items from the Small Jar Bazaar, and the second is for unlocking new clothes for your Nightfarers. Here are some of the items that you can purchase using this currency:
Buying Items At Small Jar Bazaar
The Jar at Small Jar Bazaar sells you various items like Goblets, Gestures, Prattling Plates, Relics, and more. You may recognize many of the gestures, like Polite Bow, Warm Welcome, Fancy Spin, Sitting Sideways, and more, from Elden Ring.
Next, you can also purchase goblets for every character from here. These aren’t available until you defeat the first Nightlord. But once you beat the boss, you should come and buy them for your favorite characters, as they let you make the most out of your relics when you areperforming relic rites.
Similarly to the gestures, prattling plates like Hello, Thank You, Wonderful, Apologies, and more make a return to Nightreign. Of course, if you are having tough luck with the expedition drops, you’re able to always get some better Polished or Delicate Scene Relics from here, too.
You could also buy a Scenic Flatstone from Small Jar Bazaar. But the Relic you get from it is revealed after you purchase it, so there’s a randomness factor here to consider.
Finally, one of the most important items that you may buy here is the Besmirched Frame, which helps youunlock the Revenant.
Buying Clothing Garbs
After you defeat your second Nightlord, Iron Menial will update you about having installed a dressing room next to the study. The dresser is where you will lose a hefty amount of Murk, as the outfits you’re able to purchase here can be very expensive.
You unlock two new outfits for each character. The first outfit is Dawn, which costs 14,000 Murk for each character. This looks quite similar to the default outfit but with a golden theme.
The second outfit is Darkness, which costs 35,000 Murk. It has a darker theme, and the characters have a more noticeable difference in their appearance.
