Bandai Namco started on November 8 sending confirmation emails for the Network Test ofElden Ring, giving players who won the lottery their codes to participate in the test. However, there have been ripples and debacles about the test on social media, particularly on Japanese Twitter, what happened?
Elden Ringis one of the most anticipated JRPG releases of 2022. It’s a brand new game developed by FromSoftware and directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki. The developers behindBloodborne, Sekiro,and theSoulsseries.
However, the spots in theElden RingNetwork Test are very limited, and for good reason. The test isn’t (simply) to have fun with the game, but to help with its finishing touches when it comes to online multiplayer. Most notably stress testing the servers, and helping the developers with various adjustments.
Scalpers are trying to resellElden RingNetwork Test codes
As pointed out by our Japanese peers atGame Spark, several auction sites including Yahoo Auction now haveElden RingNetwork Test codes listed. Several players who won the lottery for the test are reselling their spots for high prices. With some of the highest offers at around 10000 Yen (around $90).
Needless to say, Bandai Namco, in the guidelines for theElden RingNetwork Test, mentioned it’s strictly forbidden to sell or share your spot in the Test. The only exception is being able to trade your code with a friend if you suddenly can’t participate in the test anymore.
Several Japanese fans have been angry and discussing the situation on Twitter. Some pointed out it’s not worth the risk, and it’s best to wait for the game to release in a few weeks anyway. Many also pointed out Bandai Namco will end up noticing the traded accounts and ban anyone who sold their code.
Furthermore, it’s important to note scalpers reselling codes or tickets is a recurring problem in Japan. All live concerts or events in Japan have limited spots, and the only way to buy your tickets is to win a lottery first. Leading to situations like this.
