The most powerful pirates inOne Piece, the Four Emperors of the Sea, recently saw a big change when Buggy and Luffy grabbed the spot of Kaido and Big Mom as the new Yonkos. While they are making their way to the One Piece treasure, they still have a lot of powerful opponents to face, and one of them is Red-Haired Shanks, the captain of the Red-Haired Pirates.

Shanks’ strength as an Emperor is defined by the fact that he is the longest-running Yonko who has yet to face a defeat in the series. As of now, he is the strongest Haki user of the current era, and this was recently witnessed when he took down Eustass Kid and his crew with just one attack. But that attack had a lot of significance behind it.

Fans might have noticed that the attack that Shanks used was called Divine Departure, which was the same attack that his former captain, Gol D. Roger, used against Kozuki Oden. It created a lot of confusion, but Eiichiro Oda recently cleared all of this confusion and also hinted at the unparalleled strength of Shanks inOne Piece.

Shanks and Gol D. Roger Have the Same Attack

According to the history ofOne Piece, Gol D. Roger was the strongest pirate of his era. He was the only one to find the One Piece treasure and claim the title of Pirate King. While fans never got to see the full level of his strength, they did witness one of his techniques called Divine Departure, or Kamusari, when he first met Kozuki Oden.

Divine Departure is a technique that involves the advanced form of Conqueror’s Haki called Conqueror’s coating and a sword. The entire sword is covered with Conqueror’s Haki, and then it is unleashed through a slash towards the opponent, defeating them in a single blow.

It is currently one of the strongest attacks inOne Piece, and it was assumed that only Gol D. Roger knew this attack until the Egghead Island arc when Shanks used the same attack against Eustass Kid. When Kid unleashed hell on Shanks’ fleet, the Emperor decided to one-shot him and Killer usingDivine Departure, ultimately defeating him. This proved that Shanks managed to learn the attack from his former captain inOne Piece.
