Being a parent, I felt I needed to cover this, but it’s also worth covering because it’s good to see video games being recognised and helping educate children and helping to better the world. So when I heard that the mobile titleHey Duggee: The Counting Badgehad won a BAFTA I figured it’d be worth mentioning!

Hey Duggee is a children’s show narrated by Alexander Armstrong and follows a group of animal children who visit Duggee, a scout leader who awards them with badges for completing various tasks. The mobile gameHey Duggee: The Counting Badgeis created by Scary Beasties, a digital agency in association with BBC Studios and Studio AKA, and the title is created with Early Years Foundation Stage learning outcomes.

The title won a BAFTA in the Digital in 2018 category, and players will have to solve a range of counting tasks with a difficulty that automatically adjusts to allow children of young ages to learn with ease. This is the second Hey Duggee app to win a BAFTA award as 2017 sawHey Duggee: We Love Animalstake home the BAFTA for Interactive Award.

There is a range of official Hey Duggee apps available across iOS, Android, and Amazon devices, some of them free while some of them cost a small fee. The apps all feature Alexander Armstrong’s voiceover and keeps the British humor intact while also teaching children various topics and tasks.

The BBC have dipped toes into discussing video games in the past such as looking at aprosthetic limb that was inspired byMetal Gear Solid V, and back in 2015, the BBC produced a movie based on theGrand Theft Autovideo game series, landing them in trademark lawsuit issueswith Rockstar. Additionally,Beyond Bluewas announced earlier this yearfrom the developers ofNever Alone: Kisima Ingitchunaand are working in collaboration with BBC Studios.
