UPDATE: Techland has provided a statement on Selinger’s departure from Dying Light 2 and the studio:

“Paweł Selinger, who has been the Narration Designer for the last two years, decided at the end of 2020 to end his cooperation with Techland and to pursue his further career elsewhere. Paweł spent most of his professional life at Techland and he, among others, takes credit for the success of the seriesCall of Juarez. He left a large piece of himself withDying Light 2, as he worked on the project from the very beginning. His duties, i.e. the narrative department, were taken over by Piotr Szymanek in October 2020.”

Original story follows below with some additional updates.

For the past few years,Dying Light 2has been one of the most anticipated games on the horizon with its unique take on the zombie post-apocalyptic genre by featuring an ever-changing world impacted by the player’s decisions. However, the game has had some notable development setbacks since its reveal at E3 2018, with one of the game’s creative leads officially departing from developer Techland after more than two decades with the studio.

Dying Light 2narrative lead Pawel Selingerannounced on his LinkedInthat he has officially left Techland after being with the Polish studio for more than 22 years. In a post on LinkedIn, Selinger detailed that he “would like to express my gratitude to the company that has allowed me to develop and fulfill myself for half of my life.” He added in the post his hopes that “Dying Light 2and subsequent projects will become world hits. Good bye and good luck!”

According to Techland, Selinger had been the narrative designer onDying Light 2for the past two years before deciding to leave at the end of 2020 to further this career, while also having worked on theCall of Juarezseries. The studio detailed that his responsibilities and role were taken over by Piotr Szymanek in October 2020.

Aside from Selinger’s departure, so far updates onDying Light 2have been relatively quiet since the game was announced in 2018. Last year, Techlandcut ties with the game’s narrative designer Chris Avellonein the wake of allegations of abuse and sexual harassment. The title was alsodelayed indefinitely last year from its planned spring 2020 release, but no clear release window for the game has been announced by the studio since then.

While there have been rumors of development troubles behind-the-scenes on the game, hopefully with the new year we’ll finally get to hear more about the long-awaited follow-up tothe studio’s 2015 original. A developer from Techland recently hinted on Reddit thatwe’ll hear more about the game in the near future, but it remains to be seen how the game will shape up from when we last saw it.

Dying Light 2is currently in development for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC and set to release sometime in 2021.
