In just a few months, you’ll get your chance to control the Spice and Arrakis.
Funcom has announced that their massively multiplayer open-world survival gameDune: Awakeningwill be launching on Steam on June 30, 2025, for $49.99 USD.

Until then, players looking forward to exploring Arrakis can download the Character Creator & Benchmark Mode and get a head start on building their character, plus a look at how the game will run on their system.
Pre-Orders Opening Soon
Pre-orders for Dune: Awakening on Steam will be available starting soon, and players who take the chance will receive a Terrarium of Muad’Dib to get them started decorating their base with Arrakis’s desert kangaroo mouse.
Players who opt to try out the character creator will not only be able to customize their appearance, but also choose their home planet, caste, and mentor. They’ll be able to import their character into the full game when it releases, and will also receive a code for the exclusive Frameblade skin for their knife.

The benchmark will show players a fly-through of an example of the kind of base they will be able to build before moving on to Harko Village, the Harkonnen player hub. From there, it will end with a run-in with one of Arrakis’s enormous sandworms.
Dune: Awakening is set in a separate canon from the books and movies where Lady Jessica had a daughter, meaning Paul Atreides was never born, and therefore never initiated his holy war. The Fremen have disappeared, and players are sent to thebeautiful but deadly world of Arrakisin order to figure out why.

Players Are Clambering To Play Dune: Spice Wars After Dune: Part Two Release
Arrakis is calling.
Once they arrive, they’ll see why Arrakis is known as the most dangerous planet in the universe; they’ll need to contend with not just hostile wildlife like the sandworms, but massive sandstorms and even the desert itself, maintaining their stillsuit, extracting water from defeated enemies, finding, trading, and consuming Spice, and doingwhatever else they can to survivethe harsh environment.
Unfortunately, while Dune: Awakening is planned to release on consoles as well as PC, its release date on PlayStation 5 and Xbox has not been revealed.

On the bright side for those fans of the series, the next movie, Dune Messiah, is rumored to be starting filmingalmost a year ahead of schedule, so that might be coming sooner than you’d expect, and the HBO seriesDune: Prophecy is set to receive a second season, so there’s still no shortage of Dune goodness coming up –not to mention the games already available.
