Dredgehas been the real catch of the year in thefishinggaming industry, making a splash with its March release and receiving an overwhelmingly positive response. Even our very own Matthew got hooked on what he describes as aunique brand of “cozy horror”. And Black Salt Games seems ready to double down on that success with a detailed map of what they have in store for fans in 2023 (viaPlayStation Blog).

Dredge fans are in for four fishbites of content this year with three free updates and one paid DLC. The first update, slated for May, may not be a big fish, but it’s still quite a catch as it includes the highly anticipated in-game map feature. This new feature is set to allow players to pick and choose from various icons representing every aspect of the game, from dangers to shipwrecks and mysteries, as well as other routine tweaks and fixes.

The second update is likely to be a much tastier fish for new fans (coming in Q2 2023), as it’s set to attract fans who prefer a more “cozy” experience by toning down the aggression of the sea monsters in its new passive mode, allowing players to relax and focus solely on their fishing and the picturesque scenery.

Of course, enjoying any game’s environment wouldn’t be complete without a photo mode, but Dredge seems intent on implementing more than just a snapshot button, and will deliver the photo mode in the form of a new in-game character who will introduce the camera ability as well as guide players to places where the marine life is worthy of taking beautiful shots (the mode will also be hooked up to the PS Share button, so pictures can be shared instantly).

The third and final free update, expected in Q3 2023, will allow players to sail in style with boat customizations, including flashy paint jobs and flags. Even better, players will be able to unlock new boat designs and flags as they progress through the game.

As for the paid DLC that’s coming in Q4, it’s a deep dive into the lore of the Ironhaven Corporation that’s been hinted at throughout the game. This expansion pack will offer new buildings, characters, equipment, and of course, fish, and it’ll also give players the chance to unravel the secrets behind the corporation’s shady activities.
