While theArrowversewas mostly a mixed bag in terms of quality, one thing that the CW DC shows excelled at was the casting, whether it be Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman or his cousin, played by Melissa Benoist. Similar was the case forArrowverse‘s Lex Luthor, Jon Cryer, who remains one of the most comic-accurate versions of the Superman foe in live-action.

Cryer’s history with the Comic book releases goes back decades, back to his time alongside Christopher Reeve’s Superman. But although his foray into the realm of CBMs wasn’t exactly exceptional, the actor finally got to set things right with his stint in theArrowverse.
SupergirlAllowed Jon Cryer To Overcome HisSuperman 4Regrets
Notable for his stint inChuck Lorre‘sTwo and a Half Men,Jon Cryerinitially starred as Lex Luthor’s nephew, Lenny, inSuperman IV: The Quest For Peace. While it was a dream come true for a young Cryer, who grew up watching Christopher Reeve’sSupermanflicks, the fourth installment was a far cry from the first two releases. Not only did the film fail to make it big among critics, but the fourth installment only garnered $30M at the box office.
Lex Luthor’s 1 Diabolical Plan is So Disturbing That James Gunn Might Never Even Consider Adapting It For David Corenswet’s Superman Franchise
Decades later, Cryer finally got the opportunity toredeemhis first outing in the realm of DC through his stint inSupergirl, as instead of being confined to the corner, he was doing the heavy lifting as Lex Luthor this time around.
I’ve always been very disappointed that Superman IV wasn’t as good as the rest of the Christopher Reeve films that I had fallen in love with as a kid. Doing this Lex Luthor was a way to finally get it right.

Even though CW’sSupergirlfaced the same fate as the rest of CW’s DC shows, which went on for too long, Cryer’s Luthor was arguably one of the biggest highlights of the series.
Jon Cryer’s Initial Foray Into Superheroes Was Through Marvel
Despite being incorporated into the realm of DC since the late 80s, interestingly, Jon Cryer was initially into Marvel comics as a kid, and it wasn’t until Jack Kirby shifted tides that he finally started taking interest in DC. His love for DC further strengthened during his adulthood after Frank Miller revolutionized the genre with his works.
I was a avid comic book collector as a kid. I was hugely into Marvel comics and didn’t really discover DC comics until my favorite artist Jack Kirby, started drawing titles for them. As an adult I got into DC Comics even more when Frank Miller changed the game with Dark Knight.

With the DCU set to introduce itsown version of Lex Luthor, set to be played byNicholas Hoult, hopefullyJames Gunnwill take some notes from Cryer’s Superman foe.
