Disney’sStar Warsuniverse has been met with quite a lot of heartwarming plotlines and wholesome moments as well as heartwrenching storylines and bitter farewells. Just like Pedro Pascal’s absolutely painful goodbye scene with Grogu aka Baby Yoda in the finale ofThe Mandalorianseason 2, which had pretty much every single viewer bawling their eyes out.

But while this scene won a majority of the fandom over (if not all of it), fans weren’t allowed to revel in the misery of this scene for long. If anything, it made that one gutwrenching arc in Din Djarin’s storyline seem completely useless by making Pascal’s Mando meet with Grogu a bit too sooner than expected with a grave mistake inThe Book of Boba Fett.
Pedro Pascal’s Heartbreaking Arc Went to Waste byTBOBF
Regarded as one of the best-ever television projects from theStar Warslore,The Mandaloriangave fansmore than just entertainment and satisfaction as it also perfectly delivered along the lines of heartbreak and closure. While the entire series was one thing, nothing came close to the finale episode of season 2, which easily gave one of the most gutwrenching endings of all time.
To jog your memory a bit, the finale sawPedro Pascal‘s Din Djarin bidding a sob-worthy farewell to Grogu as the latter left him to train with Luke Skywalker to become a Jedi. This was one of the most emotionally invested moments for fans from the entireSWsaga that perfectly depicted Mando’s vulnerability in letting Baby Yoda separate from himself.

“Ubisoft understood the assignment”: Star Wars Outlaws Allows Players To Find and Use The Mandalorian’s Phase-Pulse Short Rifle
If anything, this scene perfectly explained thatboth Grogu and Djarin neededeach other in their own respective ways. For Grogu, it was due to more than just the fact that he needed a guardian, while for Djarin, it was because he needed Grogu to grow past where he was and become the person that he held the potential to be. All of this made the sad goodbye as notable as ever.
However,The Book of Boba Fettpretty much undid this scene. In this spin-off series, season 1 ofwhich succeededThe Mandalorianseason 2, it was seen right in the season finale that Grogu returns to Djarin in an emotional turn of events. Apparently, Baby Yoda didn’t want to become a Jedi, and thus, decided to return to his guardian and Pascal’s character instead.

That said, manyfans consider thisa major mistake in the hands of Disney. This is because, instead of showing those two characters in each other’s absence to further emphasize how much they needed each other, it had the two of them meeting a lot sooner than expected, making that heartwrenching ending of season 2 seem worth nothing.
Fans Are Still Mad at Disney for Making the Finale Seem All for Nothing
Although it has been more than 2 years since this decision to more or less ruin the bawl-worthy finale scene ofThe Mandalorianseason 2, fans are still mad about it all. To say the least, they believe the higher-ups just couldn’t wait for long enough to bring these two back in what could have been an incredibly heartwarming first episode of the series’ third season.
All in all, here’s what they have to say about the same onX:

Foreve hilarious that disney just immediately folded and brought baby yoda back, didn’t even last a year lmao
Biggest story mistake of the series. Made season 2 ultimately pointless.

Insane that they didn’t even wait to do it on their show. I expected them to cave in and do it half way through season 3 but they didn’t even wait for the first episode sksksk makes rewatching so awkward cause you can’t watch it in order
Arguably the worst decision Disney Star Wars has made and that’s some steep competition.
I’m trying to wrap my head around what HAPPENED in between this episode and BoBF that led them to the cowardly storylines that have followed.
I think we all knew they were gonna reunite but I also don’t think any of us expected it to happen in a DIFFERENT show barely a year later! It would have been at least a little bit earned if it had been in the season finale of S3 or something!
Probably one of the biggest mistakes in storytelling I’ve seen

Well, for what it’s worth, while both of theseare among the most fan-beloved shows, the decision to reunite Din Djarin and Grogu sooner than expected was an inevitable mistake that undid the emotional impact of their original goodbye. If anything, these fan reactions perfectly justify just why the franchise should have opted otherwise.
The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett can be streamed on Disney+.
