Character customization is a wonderful thing. Sure, you’ll always have games where you’re playing a predesignated character who is meant to look a certain way. However, even in those instances, it’s nice to be able to choose their outfits, armor, maybe give them a haircut. Customization is where the player meets the game to declare a little bit of ownership. you’re able to make Kratos look likeyourKratos. Skyrim’s Dragonborn is, of course, yourDragonborn.

Unlike previous entries in the Diablo series, this is now an area whereDiablo4 shines because of a wonderful character creator and a robust transmog system.
When you first select your character, you’ll decide whether to play a more masculine character or a more feminine one. From there, you may look through a number of preset options. If you’re not the kind of person who wants to select every detail of your character, Diablo 4 has you covered. You can browse the presets and decide which character fits your vision the most. However, if you are the kind of person who wants to tweak every detail, then you need only select the customize option.

From there, you’re going to select things like skin tone, eye color, hair and beard. You’ll even be able to choose jewelry and makeup. you’re able to select what kind of markings you want your character to have and whether those marking are some kind of warpaint, tattoos, or fresh blood. You have a lot of options at your disposal, and there are no wrong answers. Best of all, your decisions aren’t set in stone. You can change your appearance again at any wardrobe in-game.
Once you’re in-game, your journey toward looking like the ultimate version of yourself is still just beginning. As you find various weapons and pieces of armor, you’ll notice that some have a little pickaxe icon when you go to sell them. That means these items are special. If you go to a blacksmith and salvage them instead of sell them, they’ll be added to your transmog wardrobe. That’s right! Over the course of the game, you’ll likely find dozens of cosmetic options to collect that will allow you to look exactly the way you want.

If you’re thinking that the transmog options already sound great, then you’re in for a real treat. When you go to your wardrobe, you’ll be able to hide any piece of gear you’re wearing or select from the available transmog options. The ability to hide any piece of gear is fantastic for someone who, say, wants their barbarian to have a minimalist look to them. Many games allow you to hide your helm, but Diablo IV allows you to hide the whole outfit.
But that’s not all! If you select a piece of gear, you’ll notice an option near the bottom of the screen to change the pigment of that gear. Have a favorite helm? Try it out in a bunch of different colors. You can do this piece by piece, or you can apply a pigment to your entire outfit.

So, take a bunch of pieces that might look a little off, then color-coordinate them and see if they look awesome! The pigment option is the true cherry on top of this transmog sundae. The ability to color-coordinate anything and everything changes the game when it comes to selecting your favorite outfit.
The best part of what Diablo 4 has done here is that it’s completely optional. If you don’t care, then select a preset and go with whatever gear you have equipped at the moment. Or, if you’re a fashion fiend like me, spend hours in your wardrobe matching each piece of gear and making your character exactly how you envision them to be. The choice is in the hands of the player and that’s when everyone truly wins. Personally, I can’t wait to acquire every piece of gear I can on release to fill up my wardrobe.
