In the early hours of Saturday morning, Destiny 3 became one of the toptrending topics on Twitterafter fans began debating on whether or not a third entry in the series was really necessary. There hasn’t been any sort of tease fromBungieregarding the idea of Destiny 3, likely due to the fact that there’s still plenty of content still to come forDestiny 2, both in the form of new seasons and in ‘The Final Shape’ DLC. Although the expansion doesn’t have a release date yet, it is expected to be the big conclusion to Destiny 2’s storyline.READ MORE:Redfall’s ‘30 FPS At Launch, 60 FPS Later’ Gambit Highlights The Absurdity Of Patch CultureHowever, despite Destiny 2’s next expansion likely being it’s last, Bungie has reiterated in the past that the studio has no plans to create a Destiny 3. Back in early 2021, design director Jacob Benton went on record to state that Bungie has no plans to create a Destiny 3. “I don’t think it’s the right direction to bring [the series] to Destiny 3,” Benton said (viaDexerto). But this still hasn’t stopped fans from debating whether or not the series actually needs a third entry. The debate was sparked after a Destiny fan account known asThe Destiny Showtweeted its “unpopular opinion,” saying that “Destiny 3 needs to happen.” After being viewed over 200,000 times, Destiny 3 quickly became a trending topic on Twitter after fans weighed in with their own opinions. One user responded by pointing out that Destiny 2 gets more and more issues with each patch, suggesting that Bungie needs to either stabilize the current system or create another sequel to start fresh.

Others believe that Destiny 2 should simply be updated to a new engine as Destiny 3 would likely mean players would need to regrind all of their unlocked weapons again and start from scratch, something many players would likely have an issue with.

Some Destiny fans were more abrasive with their opinions, with many simply replying with “nope” or “I agree.” But one user said the thought of Destiny 3 makes them want to “throw up” due to having to restart after years of building their ideal character. They expressed that having to start again would likely mean they drop the series entirely.

Despite a plethora of replies being against the idea of another Destiny title, some were actually in favor of the idea. There were a number of users who stated that Destiny 3 would be a good idea, assuming that all of their vaults and guardians could be carried over. Whilst others believed that due to the ongoing server issues with Destiny 2, a sequel is needed to remedy the ongoing faults.

There’s no way to know for sure whether or not Bungie will actually develop Destiny 3, but one thing’s for sure, just the mere idea of it has fans divided.
