FollowingDestiny 2’s update roadmap, after October 8’s Revenant update, the next update, Heresy, will drop August 24, 2025. If the datamined information is to be trusted, that is whenMarathonpreorders will open.
Interestingly, according toForbes’ Paul Tassi’s reporting, Bungie might have been gunning for a controlled leak— it’s either them playing 4D chess, or data miners striking new information on their own.
With only five months until preorders, Bungie’s bound to start releasing more information, videos, and pictures of the game soon.
Marathon’s Release Marathon
Although Bungie is known forHalo,their initial claim to fame was theMarathonseries in the 1990s.
Despite the original games being campaign-focused, this new Marathon title is set to be an extraction shooter—somewhat similar to games likeEscape From Tarkov.
While a revival of a beloved IP is usually a cause for celebration, just look atGod of War, ever since its 2023 reveal,Marathon’s development has suffered alongside rising doubts from players.

While Concord has been shuttered,there have been rumors of an F2P rerelease.
Older reports suggested that Bungie shifted its main focus away fromDestiny 2and ontoMarathon, which must’ve been impacted by the company’s significant contribution to the 2023-2024 gaming layoff spree.
The game was then delayed - sort of, given that there was never an official release date - due to internal controversy within Bungie that resulted inMarathon’s director being fired,among other reasons.
Still, these delays notwithstanding,playtesting has allegedly startedwith the game passing with flying colors; some have labeled playing it as “surreal.”
