With the new weekly reset inDestiny 2’sEpisode Heresy on April 29th, 2025,a new triumph has revealed itself.En Passant is a triumph that has players solve27 mind-boggling chess puzzlesin the Unknown Space.
To even begin this process of solving the easily missable puzzle,you’ll need to have already collected the 60 chess pieces hidden around the game world,some in patrol spaces, theNether, theCourt of Blades, and even from vendors.
The guide to finding all the pieces can be found inthe link below. While the pieces appear all around the world, a total of 33 of them can be found within the Nether.
Destiny 2: All 60 Chess Piece Locations
Mysterious chess pieces have appeared throughout the system? What could they mean? Doesn’t matter–we gotta collect ‘em all.
I recommend playing a Nether round on a Private instance so you can take your time finding the easy ones, then roll the dice a couple of times for what’s left.
Befitting the fashion of the franchise’s puzzles and mysteries, these chess puzzles are head-scratchingly difficult for non-chess players.The game does not hold your hand whatsoever, nor does it teach you chess, only giving you vague clues to figure out on your own.

I am famously terrible at chess, and found these solutions via the community. The credit for the solutions to these puzzles goes to the Destiny 2 community and Esoterickk on YouTube. This is also a developing community effort, and will be updated depending on new discoveries.
Puzzle Location And How To Access
Much like most triumphs, En Passant has multiple steps that tally up how much progress you’ve made. Assuming you’ve already found all 60 pieces,travel to Eris Morn’s flat in The Last City destination on your Director.
Once you’re in the apartment,go through the glowing green tear that takes you to Eris’s throne world,the High Heresy. From there, assuming you’re looking straight at Eris from where you spawned,immediately turn 90 degrees to the right and look over the ledge of the platform.
Directly underneath you is a hidden roomthat you’ll need to jump into.
Inside the room sits a table with a chessboard. As you approach it, you’ll see the prompt “Pick up the King?” Interacting with this prompt will load you out of the area and put you into the Unknown Antechamber in The Unknown Space.
Inside the Unknown Antechamber, you’ll find that you’ve essentially been shrunk to the point where you’re on the chessboard.
How It Works
Let’s get our bearings. First, you’ll see a typical 8x8 chessboard in front of you, with grids indicating their locations:A-H (left to right), 1-8 (bottom to top).For example, the bottom-left tile would be notated as A1, and the top-right H8.
Around the board are plates with chess symbols, each of which you may step on. Once you step on those plates,you’ll notice a message indicating how many actions you have left on the buff/debuff section of your HUD.
Every Puzzle Solution
All 60 chess pieces you’ve found will be used to solve these puzzles.You need to have all 60 piecesas every one of them will be used by the time you’re done.
Let’s get down to brass tacks. So far, there are 27 chess puzzles that you can independently solve. Each flows into one another and increases in difficulty the further you get. There are atotal of 27 puzzles.Solving a puzzle will trigger a message saying “Absolute pin,” giving you some Glimmer, a chance to earn a god rollweapon(possibly a Shiny and/or Adept), and some lore cards.
Here’s the solution to each of them:
To place a piece or any other action, simply stand on a corresponding plate, find the grid you’re looking for, and shoot it. The solutions noted below will bepiece first, tile second.
Chess Puzzle Endgame
Once you’ve solved all 27 puzzles, the board will reconfigure, braziers will ignite a green fire, anda bowl of water will appear in place of the Take plate.You can now place an unlimited number of pieces anywhere on the board.
You’re now at the Endgame.The bowl will have the prompt “The Water Reveals…” Interacting with the bowl will reveal a pattern and then provide you witha bird’s eye view of the board.This will also give you a frequency as this happens. The panel that was once used to undo your actions now has the prompt"Offer Your Answer."
We still don’t know what the frequencies mean and how to solve this puzzle, andno doubt the chess experts and smartypants of the Destiny community will solve it within a few days.Some have noticed that each frequency seems to be a smaller piece of a much, much larger image, whichmay be relevant to the upcoming Edge of Fate reveal and the Rite of Nine event, which are supposed to go live on May 6th, 2025.
You don’t have to solve all 27 puzzles again just to get to the Endgame. Once you leave your instance, you’re able to reenter by selecting “Unknown Antechamber” in The Last City Destination on your Director, and you can select “Endgame.” If, for some reason, you want to revisit the 27 puzzles, you can select “Middlegame.”
As of now, keep track of the frequency codes that you have, and if you want to help the community figure out what image this is, you can help by going to the Destiny subreddit and engaging with the community. There’s awebsitewhere you can submit any frequencies you find.
There seems to be a total of 4096 possible frequencies, each representing a tile in a 64x64 grid. you’re able to either go tor/raidsecretsorr/DestinyTheGame.
UPDATE:As of April 30th, 2025, the chess puzzle ARG has been solved. The frequencies formed a QR code that took players to a website, leading the community to another community puzzle that can now be solved.

Once you’ve collected your rewards,head up the stairs,and you’ll find a rift on the platform above.
Interacting with the prompt “The Water Reveals All…“will trigger a cutscene where your character and Drifter meet,where he’ll hint at what is to come.
