Destiny 2: Best Builds For Heresy Aspects

Here are the builds that best synergize with the newly released Aspects in Episode Heresy.

Instead of a straightforward quest that pops up without any prompting, you’ll need to discover these new steps yourself, which requires some sleuthing, a lot of elbow grease, and a little RNG-based luck.

We’re here to help you find these new quests so that you canfully upgrade the Barrow-Dyad inDestiny 2.

We’ve already covered thesecret quest to uncover the Barrow-Dyadreleased inAct 1. Since then, it has grown into a monster at add-clearing and DPS.

Barrow-Dyad might just be the best weapon that came out of the post-Final Shape episodes, toppling the likes of Choir of One andSlayer’s Fang.

If you don’t already have the Barrow-Dyad,be sure to check out our guide to acquiring it, which will eventually take you to the"Derealize" exotic mission.

Each catalyst alters the way you use Barrow-Dyad,and they are all worth acquiring. Not only that, but the Taken path you’re on also slightly changes the weapon’s behavior.

After Episode Heresy ends, the only way you can change the weapon’s behavior is through reshaping it in the crafting area in the Enclave.

You’ll need to equip the Barrow-Dyad for most Heresy activities, which will unlock a quest that eventually leads to finding the catalyst.

If you prefer to use your favorite weapons, you can complete the activity with your loadout and then hot swap to Barrow-Dyad before the activity ends.

You’ll also need tocollect all 18 Taken Osseous Fragments for the Dyadic Ascension questto fully upgrade your Intrinsic Perk to “Panic Response V.”

There are12 fragments in the Nether and six in the new Sunless Cell strike.

High Impact Reserves

High-Impact Reserves is the first catalyst you can unlock, and the quest can be found bycompletingExpert Court of Bladeswith the Barrow-Dyad equipped.

You’ll acquire the Sharp Osseous Spineand have to return it to the Shaping Slab in exchange for the “A Needle’s Path” quest.

First, you’ll need to “master the Path of Resolve,” which meansranking up your Shaping Slab: Resolve to Rank 12and acquiring the necessary upgrades. There are several activities to complete to rank up your Shaping Slab reputation.

To ensure you’re on the right path, make sure to toggle the Taken orb next to the Shaping Slab so that it’s an inky, starry black.you may also tell that you’re on the Path of Resolve when killing enemies drops small balls that give youSigil Shards.

While I mentioned that you can complete the activity with your favorite loadout, I highly recommend equipping and using the Barrow-Dyad as this would be a great chance for you to practice it and test its limits.

To complete “A Needle’s Path,” you’ll need tocomplete Expert Court of Blades again, this time not just with the Barrow-Dyad but withlong-ranged weapons like Scout Rifles, Linear Rifles, or Sniper Rifles.

You can, of course, complete this activity the normal way by actually completing objectives and killing enemies with a full fireteam.

However,it is possible to complete this solo, as you can simply load up the activity, enter the first boss room, and then wait out the 10-minute timer. This won’t end the activity, as the game will simply count this as a final round and end the moment you beat the boss.

When the activity ends, you’ll get the High-Impact Reserves Refit, and you can put this catalyst on your weapon.

From this point on, you’ll notice that these quests will require you to use certain weapons with the Barrow-Dyad. To avoid doing these activities twice,I suggest equipping those weapons with the exotic on your first run so that you can skip this.

Hatchling is the next catalyst you can unlock and is quite popular for those Strand Warlocks who may be interested in amore Hatchling-focused build.

Before you may unlock the quest, there are some prerequisites to complete first. You’ll need to find and defeat secret enemies in three areas ofthe Nether, one in each location:Trenchway, Hall of Souls, and Mausoleum.

The Trenchway, Hall of Souls, and Mausoleum are guaranteed first locations that you spawn in the Nether. If you don’t land in the desired area, you can simply reload the activity.

At the Trenchway, you’ll need to find and defeat a Taken Ogre miniboss.Inside the Trenchway, you’ll find a large door in the right-most area (if you’re starting at the spawn point).

Find three braziers and light them. There’s one on the ledge and two more adjacent to the door. An Ogre will spawn for you to defeat.

The second secret is in the Hall of Souls. You’ll find a Cursed Thrall named the Ravenous munching away in a pool of gunk and Hive worms.

Get its attention, but try not to get too close, or else it’ll blow up, forcing you to start over. Your goal is to evolve the Ravenous to its final form, like a Pokémon.

The Ravenous will then walk towards another pool. Let it eat, and it’ll transform into an Acolyte. This time, avoid its attention, or else it’ll engage in combat with you.

Follow it to the next pool, where it’ll evolve into a Knight, which you’re able to finally defeat.

The third and final secret is in the Mausoleum.Surrounding the pit where you fight the Taken Ogre boss arefour dead Cabal Phalanxes stuck or hanging from some small Taken blights.

Shoot the blights to release the Phalanxes, which will then transform into Taken Phalanxes. Defeat all four of them.

Completing all three secrets will award you the Coalescence of the Deep Sky.

Just in case you still haven’t gotten it,you can stay at the Mausoleum and head towards a panel where you can activate a portal.Opening the chests will give you the Coalescence of the Deep Sky.

Head back onto the Trenchway.Go all the way to the big canyon and to the left (assuming you spawned there)and pull out your Ghost, which will revealinvisible platforms that will take you up a nook in the wall.

If you have all the prerequisites, you’ll find that the panel says “Rites of the Deep Tithe Found Worthy.“If not, you’ll see “Rites of the Deep Tithe Found Lacking.”

Activate the portal and loot the chests, which will give you the Coalescence of Sorrow and the Heavy Osseous Spine items.

Return to the Shaping Slab and exchange the Heavy Osseous Spine for the “A Hammer’s Path” quest, which requires you to increase your Path of Ambition reputation to Rank 12 to acquire the upgrades necessary.

Once that’s done, you’ll need tocomplete the Nether activity on Expert difficulty with the Barrow-Dyad equipped, along with close-range weapons like shotguns, glaives, or swords.

Like the previous catalyst, you may hot-swap those weapons if you don’t want to feel constricted by this loadout.

One For All

Heresy Act 3 has brought the fan favoriteTaken Kingstrike, The Sunless Cell, toDestiny 2,replacing the terrifying Alak-Hul (now the Lightblade) with Obak-Hul.

While you’re there, you’ll find six Taken Osseous Fragments hidden in the strike. Three are in the starting area, two are in the area where you destroy two Taken Blights, and there’s one before the Shrieker room.

To acquire One For All,you must complete The Sunless Cell with the Barrow-Dyad equipped. This will reward you with the Trembling Osseous Spine, which you may exchange at the Shaping Slab for the “A Hundredfold Path” quest.

Next, you’ll need to find 10 Tithing Wormspawns. They pop up if you are on the Path of Ambition.

There are two Tithing Wormspawns in each area of the Nether, with the inclusion of the new Hull Breach area. They can be found if you keep an eye out on your minimap.

While they’re rather well hidden, they’re located in areas where you can see them just outside your periphery.

To complete the quest, finish the Sunless Cell with the Barrow-Dyad while using SMGs, Auto Rifles, or Machine Guns. You know the drill by now.

Target Lock

Target-Lock should be the final Catalyst for you to unlock. There are some prerequisites to complete prior to acquiring the quest.

Progress the story and complete the Act 3 Dossier missions. Then, complete the Hive Rune puzzles in The Founts.

Unlike the other three locations, The Founts and Hull Breach are not spawn locations. Instead, they are second and third locations, which makes them quite time-consuming to reach.

To complete the first Hive Rune puzzle, you’ll find three Hive symbols on the wall on the left side of The Founts (facing the locked gate).Inside the room beyond that wall are rows of symbols that you can shoot.

Follow the pattern from left to right, which spawns a chest for you to loot and completes the first puzzle.

These two puzzles are also RNG-based. To increase the likelihood of getting these puzzles, I would recommend loading up a private “Exploration” version of the Nether.

Then, you may find the second Hive Rune on a pillar next to the chest. Shooting it will open a door, which you’ll need to navigate some tunnels to find and destroy a small Taken Blight.

You’ll also be accruing stacks of Suffocating Terror while inside, but it doesn’t matter as much.

Looting the chest will reward you with the Coalescence of the [Knife] item, which you’ll need for the next step.

The next area you need to go to is the Hull Breach, which manyDestiny 1fans will remember from the Taken King days when you first made contact with the Dreadnaught.

There are reports that the Toland ghost spawns based. There are conflicting reports, so expect divergences.

To the left-most edge of the region are some Cabal crates with a Taken ghost that resembles Toland.Scan it, and a Taken enemy will spawn.Defeating it will give you a Skyburner code for you tounlock a forcefield underneath the platform you’re on.

Loot the chest, and you’ll get another Coalescence of the [Knife].Then, you can open the portal for the catalyst quest, which you can find on the other side of the area.

Open the portal and open the chests. You’ll get a Warped Osseous Spine, which you can exchange for the “A Silken Path” quest.

This time, you’ll need to find 10 Ravenous Wormspawn. These appear across the Nether when you are on thePath of Resolve. They work the same as Tithing Wormspawn; two will spawn in each area of the Nether.

Once complete, you’ll need tofinish the Derealize Exotic Mission with the Barrow-Dyad equipped.

After that, you’ll finally acquire the Target Lock catalyst and you have all four catalysts.

Which Catalyst Is Better?

Each Catalyst has its use, and they supplement whatever playstyle you want.

While each Catalyst has its uses,Target Lock is, in my experience, one of the best perks you can have for any rapid-fire weapon.
