FromSoftware loves making games with a lore that expands far and wide. Every gamer out there who plays one of these games would know that lore hunting in soulslike games by FromSoft is a hobby for many gamers. Those lore hunters often end up finding some incredible new details about their favorite characters. Nowadays, fans are trying their best to connectBloodborneandDark Souls.

These two games were released years apart:Dark Soulslaunched in 2011 andBloodbornein 2015. Both of these games were very successful, and both of them fall under the popular genre of souls. And now, if an avid fan is to be believed, both of them share a character that first appeared in Dark Souls.
Fan theory says Marvelous Chester might have traveled to Oolacile fromBloodborne’sYharnam
InDark Souls, fantastical elements are plentiful; everywhere one looks, one sees something mystical or magical happening. Then there are those incredible-looking fantastical creatures that appear on every corner. Who can forget that massive dragon and that massive metal golem?
Not Elden Ring Or Bloodborne, Hidetaka Miyazaki Admitted The One Game That Was “too hard to understand”
When players play through theKnight Artorias DLC, it becomes evident that even time travel is possible in this game. The player travels through time to defeat Manus, the father of the abyss. They land in an ancient place called Oolacile, where a bunch of new NPCs reside.
In this location, players meet a bunch of mushroom people, they meet Knight Artorias, and they meet a person called Marvelous Chester. He is a smartly dressed gentleman wearing a getup very similar to one that people wore during the Victorian era.

This character is voiced by seriesregular William Houston, the same guy who voiced Djura inBloodborneand Oceirus inDark Souls 3.This guy’s face is hidden behind a creepy smiling mask, and he asks the player if they were snatched from their world too.
Then he goes on to tell the player that he will be snatched from his home in the future. Eventually, he has a duel with the player, and he actually fights like a hunter too, more offensively, like players do inBloodborne. It’s as if the guy was lifted straight from Yharnam and dropped into Oolacile.

This theory is proposed by a fan and Reddit user namedBookerDeWittsCarbine, who is dead sure that Chester was dragged into the world ofDark Soulsthe same way players were dragged into this DLC. In a number of ways, it makes sense too. After all, there is no other explanation for this guy’s existence.
“He’s a pretty rare existence in this world”: Hidetaka Miyazaki on Why Bloodborne Gave us the Most Disturbing Version of an Infamous Soulslike NPC
Maybe he was an old hunter who found an anomaly in Yharnam, which teleported him to Oolacile. Some even suggest he was a hunter who went all bloodthirsty and went mad. Even if there’s no truth to this theory, there’s a lot here to entice fans into believing it.
After all, there’s no other point to Chester’s existence inDark Souls; he is just there, and then he dies. At least this theory gives him an excellent backstory.

Is this theory practically viable, though?
One cannot help but wonder how viable a theory like this can be. Yes, Chester looks straight out of Yharnam. Yes, he fights differently from the usualDark Soulsenemy. But this is how one distinguishes a unique character; this is howHidetaka Miyazakiprobably decided to show that Chester was from the future.
“This gives us clues”: Some of Hidetaka Miyazaki’s Best Ideas for Elden Ring and Bloodborne were Taken from Copycats
And let’s now forget that players themselves go back in time when they travel to Oolacile. One can say that maybe Chester belongs to a time period that’s beyond the current time period of Dark Souls. Over that, Hidetaka Miyazaki could not have thought of Bloodborne when working onDark Souls, as he did not have that idea at all. Thatconcept was developed by a co-developer ofBloodborneJapan Studio. Hence, the idea of Chester belonging to theBloodborneera sounds exciting and interesting, but it cannot be intentional.
