Even the romance between Momo Ayase and Okarun is gripping and one of the most natural dynamics we’ve seen in the anime industry.
This is also due to the type of person Momo Ayase is written to be. She’s distinct from other female anime characters, having an independent and powerful sense of self, which makesDandadanso much more compelling.

From early on, we know fashion means a lot to Momo, changing into her style of clothes rather than the protective gear her grandmother gave her. However, there’s a special attention that her character gets as opposed to the others inDandadanthat makes her so interesting and fleshed out. She’s observant and completely confident in her thoughts. While she’s only human and can falter, there’s one thing she doesn’t fail to excel at, and that’s fashion.

The female protagonist has not only developed a sense of style thatdefies Japanese social standardsbut also doesn’t completely do it to particularly stand out. In episode 9 ofDandadan, the trio of her, Okarun, and Aira Shiratori had to strip down due to the water-logged school. It was admittedly uncomfortable to see them nude buta Redditor has analyzed the choice in lingeriegiven to Momo. She chooses comfort over style for her underwear but chooses a good distinctive style for her clothes.
She dons a choker for most outfits but wears big green earrings that contrast but compliment her pink sweater, both of which aren’t parts of her uniform. Her other outfits, like in the train scene of episode 4, are completely well-designed and exude confidence through style. She even says:

She shows great care in how she presents herself but for her own sake and not others, as opposed to Aira who is far more concerned about her image.
Other Mangaka Should Learn From Tatsu
Yukinobu Tatsuis careful to balance the chaotic side of Momo with her calm, collected side. More often, it’s her ideas that save her and Okarun. She’s shown to be more capable and level-headed than her male counterpart and others. She doesn’t live to please others and it also shows in her way of speaking and outfits.

The protagonist isn’t without flaws and hasn’t always been this way. She didn’t listen to her grandmother years ago after being made fun of. However, she learned and grew into the person she is in the present ofDandadan.She’s crude but doesn’t care what people think unless she’s in a compromising position like atthe end of episode 9.
