CD Projekt Red has officially confirmed onTwitterthat they have come around to the idea of implementing a multiplayer feature intoCyberpunk 2077. The studio stated that the much-anticipated title will receive a multiplayer mode sometime post-launch. The devs also highlighted thatCyberpunk 2077will get some kind of free DLC and additional single-player content post-launch also but didn’t indulge into this aspect of the game just yet.
In a previousinterview with Eurogamer, senior concept artist at CD Projekt Red Marthe Jonkers discussed the complexities surrounding a multiplayer inCyberpunk 2077"Itâs possible if it doesnât fit, it doesnât fit,â says Jonkers. âWe would never make anything thatâs not at leastÂThe Witcher standard forÂCyberpunk. I donât know what the future holds but we will make sure everything we make will be high quality.â Marthe continues âWe are doing R&D into multiplayer but weâre focusing on single-player experience, and thatâs what youâll get in 2020. It doesnât mean weâre saying no multiplayer, but it doesnât mean weâre saying yes either. Itâs still an R&D phase.â
Well, it seems as though the R&D phase is now over as CD Projekt Red have posted arecruitment pagewhere eight jobs for a multiplayer team are listed in which it highlights roles for a design director, game designer, and a senior gameplay programmer.
It will be really interesting to see how CD Projekt Red go about adding a multiplayer into an open-world RPG, but I do secretly hope that they do something similar to what Rockstar North did withGTAonline. Only time will tell and of course, we will keep you updated with any further news on this.
