They had to consider many factors including the fact thatStranger Thingsis still a family show. “Billy and Karen do have great chemistry,” but they had to balance it out because there were other people around. They wanted to give the audience something to anticipate, but not fulfill in the end. “That way it’s thrilling to watch,” she added.
As Mrs. Wheeler prepares to meet her newfound love interest, she changes her mind at the last minute. Buono suggested putting her other daughter Holly in the scene, where she would be seen sleeping in the living room with her father, to give Mrs. Wheeler a stronger reason to feel a bit of guilt. The actress said it was a way to make the character realize that she’s the adult and had to make the grownup decision for her family and Hargrove.

Even though some fans wanted Mrs. Wheeler to fulfill her summer love affair, not pushing through the sizzling romance storyline was the right thing to do.
