While it’s not uncommon for games to get shelved, a new report has surfaced stating that there’s an AAA game based on theStar Warsfranchise that was planned to have a sequel, though that might not be happening anymore.

It’s not surprising when you factor in the game’s commercial performance and the fact that the title has no multiplayer component, which publisher Ubisoft can rely on to reinvigorate its player base.

10 Best Star Wars Games Where You’re The Bad Guy

From the classic Battlefront II to Knights of the Old Republic, here are my top ten best Star Wars games where you’re the bad guy.

This tactic is something Ubisoft has done with games such as Rainbow Six Siege, For Honor, and more, which proves a game’s fate isn’t sealed just by its launch numbers, though it’s a different story if it’s a purely single-player game. If it’s not a live service, there’s not much to entice people to come back if they aren’t fans of the core gameplay experience.

AAA Star Wars Sequel Reportedly Canceled

In case you still haven’t guessed which game we’re referring to, it’s Ubisoft’s AAA action game, Star Wars Outlaws. Released in August 2024, the titlefailed to set the sales charts on fire, and was criticized for its performance issues and forced stealth segments.

Its retail performance was reportedly so bad that evena much older Star Wars action game outsold itin its first year.

If you were counting on seeing more of Kay Vess or how her journey pans out, you might be waiting a while, as a new report, while not official, states that any sequel plans are now dead.

The report comes from Tom Henderson, who mentioned this in the latestInsider Gaming podcast, stating, “They also recently canceled Star Wars Outlaws 2, because that was planned and in the works. It didn’t enter production, as far as I know, it wasn’t set in stone.”

Star Wars Outlaws Finally Removes Forced Stealth

New creative director Drew Rechner has delivered on his promises.

If so, it’s not surprising, since aside from the game’s commercial failures, the game’s developer, Massive Entertainment, is busy supporting The Division 2 and working on its sequel, The Division 3.

Can Star Wars Outlaws make a comeback? We can’t say for sure. I mean, one other Star Wars gamemanaged to reach its all-time player higheight years after its release. Of course, the major difference here is, Star Wars Battlefront 2 is a multiplayer-focused title. Not only that, but even afterreleasing a demo on PSN and the Xbox Store, it doesn’t seem to have done much.

That said, who knows? Ubisoft is still pushing out updates to Outlaws, and perhaps one day it’ll be seen in a much more positive light. Sometimes, all it takes is one content creator to bring a game up, and then it explodes.

As for the next Star Wars game players can look forward to,Star Wars Zero Company is due for release in 2026, though it might not be what fans of the IP were expecting.
