But it’s so common to see good characters turning into evil that the fans wonder if Makima also falls in the same line. So it seems fair to explore if she will turn out to be the series’s main antagonist or stick to the good side till the very end.
Is Makima Really Evil?
As of now, Makima is introduced to us as the highest-ranking Public SafetyDevil Hunterwho meets Denji when he fights the devil-turned-Yakuza member who sold his soul to the Zombie Devil. Denji’s life instantly changes after meeting Makima as she offers him good food, a better life, and a reputed job to kill the Devils. That said, she considers him his pet dog, but Denji doesn’t seem to have any problem with that as he instantly falls in love with her.
If you haven’t read the Chainsaw Man manga and speculated Makima as an evil character with just a few episodes of the series, it’s quite impressive as she does turn out to be the major antagonist of the Public Safety Arc. All her kindness is nothing more than a charade that she slowly starts to drop after Aki Hayakawa’s death. Her ability to control and manipulate people also comes from her devil powers, as she turns out to be the Control Devil.

What Are Makima’s Powers?
With her Control Devil powers, Makima is the strongest devil in the series who can control anyone she deems inferior to her. Her powers don’t just work on humans but on devils,fiends, animals, and hybrids as well. If she feels someone is not inferior to her, like Reze, she defeats them in a fight to prove their inferiority. She can also use the abilities of Zombie Devil, Spider Devil, Punishment Devil, Snake Devil, Future Devil, and Angel Devil, which means she can also control those who are dead.
On multiple occasions, we’ve seen her borrowing the power of rats, birds, and other animals for her own benefit. One of her strongest powers includes inflicting damage just by staring at someone. Using this power may change according to the situation, and certain requirements need to be fulfilled to use it.
What Does Makima Want?
Now you must be wondering, what does Makima truly want? Well, her true objectives are two-fold. Firstly, Makima wants to create an ideal world that is free of fear, hatred, death, and everything that is deemed bad. For this purpose, she needs thepower of Chainsaw Devil, as he is the only known devil who can permanently erase other devils from existence by consuming them. Secondly, she wants to live a happy life with Pochita as she never had something she could call a family and have a true relationship with.
