Boruto Next Generationsanime finally adapts the intense fight between Boruto and his adopted brother Kawaki from manga chapter 66 in its latest episode 292, but the community didn’t miss how the fight coreography appears identical to the infamous final fight between the iconic duo Naruto and Sasuke from the original anime.

For instance, the very first moments of the fight depict Boruto and Kawaki using each other’s hands at high speed to complete the jutsu (ninja technique) casting,as one fan noted. But also everything after that, from the body movements to the casting of the Katon (fire release) technique, iscopied 1:1 from the original Naruto animesakuga and composition. Such a gesture is very fitting, as this fight is in many ways a kind of finale for one chapter in Boruto’s life story.

This episode is the pre-finale before the final episode 293 airs next week, concluding part 1 of the Boruto anime series.

The fight actually ends with Boruto’s death, which is not as permanent as it might seem (Boruto actually revives in the next episode/chapter), but his death here has a lasting and reverberating effect on the entire story.

As mentioned earlier, Boruto suffers from the Karma Curse, which allows the villainous Momoshiki Ōtsutsuki of the Kara Clan to take over Boruto’s body when the time is right, so Kawaki has no choice but to fulfill Boruto’s own wishes and kill him to prevent him from becoming a full-fledged villain and hurting his friends and homeland. (Momoshiki currently resides inside Boruto as a separate consciousness, waiting for the right moment to overtake his body as a vessel).

Boruto’s death here is real, but since Momoshiki doesn’t want to die along with him, he will replace Boruto’s lost cells with his own, further accelerating the process of taking over Boruto and eventually turning Boruto into a full member of the Ōtsutsuki.

Fans already know that Boruto will be alive no matter what, since Boruto actually started with an episode that depicts events very far in the future of the series, but the twist here is whether the characters will actually stay as themselves throughout the story.

Not only does this fight have a sadder ending than the original Naruto & Sasuke fight, but there are many intertwining factors (taking into accountthe latest manga twist) that make this fight even darker, tackling Boruto’s identity itself on a physical and historical level, and recontextualizing many of the foreshadowing instances left throughout the story.
