Konami’s announcement back in October 2022 that they were remakingSilent Hill 2for the PS5 and PC was surprisingly met with mixed reception from horror fans. It wasn’t because they didn’t want to see the horror game get remade, but rather, who wasbehindsaid remake, which was Bloober Team.

While the Polish studio has developed horror games like The Medium, Layers of Fear and more previously, these weren’t exactly AAA titles and of the same caliber as the Silent Hill franchise. Naturally, fans were quite skeptical about whether Bloober could pull it off or not. Well, to the surprise of many (including this guy), the Silent HIll 2 remake blew everyone away, as it managed to not only stay faithful to the original, but Bloober even incorporated new offerings without souring the overall taste of the game.

Silent Hill 2 Artist Says Bloober

Bloober Team’s Confidence Boosted by the Silent Hill 2 Remake’s Reception

In aninterview, Bloober Team admitted that they’ve heard the skepticism of gamers. Now that it’s out, and it seems a lot of people really like it, this has apparently boosted the team’s confidence a lot.

Bloober Team producer Jacek Zieba shares, “I think definitely, yes. It just gives all of us more confidence, I think definitely for the Silent Hill team, but also for us. Yeah, like ‘We can do it. We can do that kind of crazy stuff.’ We also love our previous games and some of them have better or worse reception, but still, we all put all our hearts into them, and we also learn with each of them. So I think I’m only hyped to see how Cronos can land. And also what’s further than Cronos.” This was a sentiment that the studio’s designer, Wojciech Piejko, also shares, adding, “Long story short, I think we all feel that we leveled up as developers.”

Given my own personal experience with the Silent Hill 2 remake, I can’t say I disagree with Piejko’s “level up” statement. I certainly didn’t expect Bloober Team to release the game as polished as it was, and even adding elements of their own was definitely a huge surprise as well.

While Bloober Teamis open to developing more SIlent Hill games, the studio’s next game out for release is their own IP, and that’s the recently-revealed Cronos: The New Dawn, which is set to launch sometime in 2025 on consoles and PC. Will lightning strike twice for the studio? We can’t say for sure, but based on the trailer reveal, they seem to be on the right track.

If you’ve yet to play Bloober Team’s Silent Hill 2 remake, you might want to remedy that, and you don’t even need to know or have played the first game in the series to understand the story. You cancheck our review of Silent Hill 2 herewhere it’s called “absolutely stellar” by our reviewer.
