Battlefield 2042’s highly-anticipated 3.2 update launches next week, EA has confirmed.
The biggest feature of the update is the “return to the class system,” a staple of past Battlefield games. This change is being implemented in response to community feedback regarding the loss of class identity and the depreciation of defined roles in-game.

In 3.2, the four classic classes of Assault, Engineer, Support and Recon will return. For those unsure of what this means for Battlefield 2042, we’veprepared an explainerto shed some light on the changes.
Each of the game’s existing specialists will now be grouped into classes. Mackay, Dozer, Sundance and Zain comprise the assault class. Boris, Crawford and Lis are engineers. Falck, Angel and Irish will be supports. Finally, Paik, Casper and Rao make up the recon class.

As with previous instalments, each class will have special gadgets to give them a unique identity on the battlefield. Assault will have the med pen, engineer the repair tool, recon the insertion beacon and support is getting the ‘ol reliable defibrillator.
Breakaway will also be getting a large overhaul in Patch 3.2. According to the developer, there will now be “better cover and improved pathing between the flags.” The oil rig has also been moved closer to add more dynamism to firefights. Additionally, the snow and ice shaders have been altered.
The class system is doubtless a big change to Battlefield 2042. With any big change, there are going to be divided opinions from the community. Our resident Battlefield expert Robert Zak hasprovided his own take on the new patch.
The full patch notes have yet to be released but EA did provide adev bloglast week outlining many of their plans for 3.2.
