Baldur’s Gate 3

How Does Heat & Heat Convergence Work

A character with the Heat condition takes 1d4 Fire Damage per turn of Heat remaining (Self-damage) but gains the ability Heat Convergence. With Heat Convergence, any time you deal fire damage, all charges of Heat get consumed to deal an extra 1 damage per turn of Heat remaining. This means that if you have 5 Heat and you use Fire Bolt on an enemy, they take an extra +5 damage on top of the initial damage from the spell.

Quitesimilar tohow Lightning Charges work, you need to gather Heat by performing certain actions in combat, depending on the Heat gear you have equipped. However,Heat also locks you into only usingFire Spells,as if you don’t use them every turn, the self-damage you take can become staggeringly high.

Unfortunately, however, you also cannot fully lean into a complete Heat build either, as you’relimited to only having 7 Charges of Heat at any one time. This means that the maximum damage you’re allowed to deal with Heat Convergence is +7, which is not that much considering there are other avenues of damage available in the game by the time you get to Act 3 that deal much more damage without pigeonholing you into a one-dimensional build.

Single target spells that proc multiple times, like Scorching Ray, will consume all Heat charges on the first proc. Every subsequent proc will not benefit from Heat Convergence. For Area of Effect spells like Fireball and Wall of Fire, all enemies caught within the blast will take the extra Heat Convergence damage.
