Baldur’s Gate 3is set for an Xbox arrival but one of its quirks has players reminiscing about game releases from a ‘technologically dead’ age. In a series of updates on X, Larian’s Director of Publishing Michael Douse announced that the physical copy of the game would have 4 disks.
As the game would have 4 discs, players who are going to purchase the physical Deluxe edition are going to be reminded of the days when games likeFinal Fantasy VIIItook this much disc space. In an age where online releases are the norm, the 4-disc Xbox release ofBaldur’s Gate 3feels like a throwback to a time when technology was far behind today’s.

Gamers have seen big-shot developers cut down on the content of games time and again to make them fit into a particular number of disks. But Larian Studios chose to go the other way by including an extra disk to make space for all the content that they had lined up for the game.

In a series of posts, Michael Douse explained that the game will likely slip its 25th March release date due to the unforeseen disk space issue.

Fans have reacted positively to this unprecedented show of transparency on the part of Larian Studios. The fact that the developers chose to not cut down on 500 MB extra content to fit it into 3 disks has endeared them to fans. In spite of 4 disks meaning more hassle on the part of the players to procure and install the game, they are overjoyed at the prospect of getting the complete game on Xbox, without any deduction in size and features.
