Despite wide praise forBaldur’s Gate 3’s ‘bear scene’ (you know the one) on other social media platforms, the infamous Halsin romance scene did not go over well with the TikTok community.

This information comes courtesy of Larian’s creative content director Ben Maltz-Jones, who hosted a talk about the studio’s social media strategy at the ongoing Game Developers Conference in San Francisco (thanks,TheGamer).

Baldur’s Gate 3’s Act 2 Would Be Perfect If Larian Added One Thing

This change would make everything feel a lot more conclusive.

Despite that particular scene becoming the game’s most viral, TikTok did not take to it like other online communities. “What works on TikTok? Not bear sex,” Maltz-Jones quipped, “They hate it.” Furthermore, the scene breaches TikTok’s content policy, which is strange as no other platforms took issue with the scene.

The bear scene was originally revealed during Larian’sPanel From Hell: Release Showcase, a multi-hour livestream that aired about a month before the game’s release. The scene quickly went viral on social media, drawing attention to the player’s ability to have sex with a wild-shaped bear.

Larian’s Approach To Social Media

Larian’s social media strategy would continue in the same vein, maintaining an informal tone; sharing cosplay, fan art and memes, rather than only official communication. This is an intentional strategy, as Maltz-Jones believes the key to growth is “running the Larian account as if it were a fan account.”

A glance at the account shows that Larian is very active in replying to posts, engaging in light-hearted banter and cracking jokes. The account is also diligent in reposting fan creations, shining a spotlight on the dedicated Baldur’s Gate 3 community.
