Why Was Zeke’s Death Important In The Series?
Zeke’s importance in Attack on Titan lies in him being the Royal Blood. The possessors of the Royal Blood had the unique ability to start the Rumbling, had they possessed the power of the Founding Titan. But in the case of Eren Yeager, he gained the power of the Founding Titan but lacked royal blood. That’s what made Zeke an important asset to him. By keeping him connected to the Founding Titan’s body using the hardening abilities of the War Titan, Eren continued the Rumbling.
That’s why, when the soldiers first arrived to fight the Founding Titan, Levi Ackerman targeted the Beast Titan, believing that Zeke would be there. By simply killing Zeke, the Rumbling would have stopped instantly, saving countless remaining lives.

In a selfless act, Zeke implored Levi to end his life, hoping to halt the Rumbling and save the world. With one clean sweep, Levi beheaded Zeke, ending his life and stopping the Rumbling. Although the fight continued after that and got even more intense, if Zeke hadn’t sacrificed his life, we would have witnessed the deaths of countless more innocent people standing on the verge of the abyss.
