Yasuke, a historical samurai who will be one ofAssassin’s Creed Shadows' two main protagonists, will not be able to assassinate people with a hidden blade,Ubisofthas confirmed. He will, however, have a wide variety of “brutal” assassination types thanks to the character’s multiple melee weapons.
As noticed by a user on theAssassin’s Creed subredditvia YouTuberJorRaptor, Assassin’s Creed Shadows' associate gameplay director has said that “Yasuke can do assassinations,” but these won’t be the usual types of stealthy assassinations that fans are used to.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows Boss Hopes Players Can Stay “Open-Minded” Amid Musk Criticism
Assassin’s Creed Shadows boss explains silence amid Elon Musk backlash and wants players to “see the game for what it is”.
“He doesn’t have a hidden blade,” Ubisoft has said. “So what he does, we call brutal assassinations. He uses the weapons that he has with him. So every melee weapon he has is able to do some variant of an assassination.”

These “brutal” assassinations aren’t new to the series, with entries such as Assassin’s Creed 3 featuring similar assassinations when a certain weapon is equipped. But it does aid in creating a clear distinction between both Naoe and Yasuke.
If this news disappoints you, you don’t need to worry. While Yasuke will act as the more combat-focused character in Shadows, anybody looking to scratch that stealth itch will be able to take control of Naoe, who will be equipped with a hidden blade and be more orientated toward stealth and remaining hidden.

“Samurai will be combat heavy, and the Shinobi will be stealth heavy,” Ubisoft said in avideolast month. “It creates this distinction right away, Yasuke can fight with all these advantages. His stature - he’s a big guy - he can break doors, fight multiple enemies, and break armour.”
As for Naoe, Ubisoft says “her character and her outfit is really about being stealthy.” As Naoe will be the only playable character equipped with the hidden blade, Ubisoft has explained that there are “clear advantages” to both characters in their respective fields, but both “can do a bit of both.”

Assassin’s Creed Shadows will be released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on November 12th.
