Some of your targets inAssassin’s CreedShadows are obvious villains, extorting and abusing the innocent.

Sometimes, however, the Shunbakufu prefer to hide in the shadows, manipulating things behind the scenes in the hopes of accomplishing their goals without ever stepping into the limelight. So it is with The Wise.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows: The Naginata Walkthrough

Getting to the Naginata requires four other quests in Assassin’s Creed: Shadows. Here’s how.

Unmasking The Wise requires completing a number of tasks for Daimyo Junkei and the Akiyama clan during their delicate attempts to forge a lasting peace, assisted by a mysterious figure named Kojiro who seems to appear and vanish whenever he pleases.

Beginning the Wise’s questline in Assassins Creed Shadows

Read on to figure out how to help keep the peace - and avoid accusing the wrong person during their peace talks.

A Chance Encounter

The first quest in this line is “A Chance Encounter”, which becomes available after assassinating “The Wheel Unmasked.” Once it’s been unlocked, you may access this quest through your Objectives Board under the Shunbakufu section.

Your first destination is the Omiwa Shrine, located in the Yamamoto region, where you’ll meet a woman named Fuyu. To find her quickly, eitherdeploy a scoutor synchronize with a nearby viewpoint to mark her position on your map. Speak with her to continue the quest.

Where to find Fuyu in Assassins Creed Shadows

Fuyu will lead you on a free-follow journey where she describes attacks on local shrines. Pray with her, and then pray at two more shrines in the area: the first lies northwest of your meeting point, and the third can be found northeast. Use your Observe skill to locate them more easily.

When you pray at the third shrine, a cutscene introduces Kojiro. Regardless of your dialogue choices, Kojiro suggests meeting Tsutsui Junkei, the local Daimyo, and gives you a persimmon to use as a gift for him.

Meeting Fuyu in Assassins Creed Shadows

Head to the village east of Koriyama, and either scout the area or find the local teahouse southwest of the village’s castle to find Junkei. A samurai out back is guarding his lord’s privacy, but they’ll let you past when you speak to them. Inside, you’ll meet Junkei and his adviser, who’ll advise you as to your next steps.

There are several field-boss enemies scattered throughout the region. Attempting this questline while below level 30 is not recommended.

The Lost Envoys

Continue your hunt by visiting a town on the eastern edge of Yamamoto along the Hidden River. Use your Observe skill to search for witnesses and uncover Kojiro, who will again point you in the right direction—this time, toward a drunk soldier.

After defeating the soldier in combat, you’ll meet Akiyama Ayako, who reveals that there are traitors in her ranks and that her mission may align with yours. You’re then sent to investigate a nearby iron-gathering site where the missing envoys are held.

Clear the area, whetherthrough stealth or combat, and speak to the captured envoy. They’ll tell you of an invitation to the peace talks that was stolen and hidden within Uda Matsuyama castle.

This letter is heavily guarded, and you may find it easier to steal it stealthily with Naoe rather than charging forth with Yasuke. After retrieving the invitation, return it to Lady Ayako at the Kasugataisha Temple to complete this chapter.

Keep an eye out for an elite Kurai Eikyou operative and remember that even non-combatants like servants can still trigger alarms!

Assassin’s Creed Shadows: The Mourner Walkthrough

Assassinating the Mourner offers a more nuanced story than many of the Shinbakufu in Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, and plenty of gear for Yasuke.

Restless Spirits

Return to Katsuragi and meet the priests near the town center to hear concerns about stolen religious artifacts. Kojiro reappears, leading you to the Gokenin No Kanrei manor just to the south.

The manor is guarded, but you can sneak in or fight your way through to uncover a revealing letter in the main building, which discloses that the Gokenin have been ordered not to interfere with ‘Takatori Bandits,’ who are part of a deeper conspiracy.

Next, travel northeast to a bridge for another meeting with Kojiro. He offers advice on how to infiltrate the bandit stronghold, although at this point you’re probably well-versed in using darkness and shadows for stealth.

Head to the bandit’s ruins and use your Observe skill to plan your route past their defenders. You may want to consider a damaged wall to the southwest, which bypasses most of the guards.

After assassinating the bandit leader and securing the camp, inspect their hoard for a letter confirming The Wise’s hand in destabilizing the region. Then, speak with Kojiro to conclude the quest.

Temple Stories

This branch of the Wise’s quest-path is less complicated. You’ll find Joken Hokkyo to the north of the Nara Heartland at the Todaji temple. Follow him through the temple grounds until Kojiro inevitably makes another appearance. Then, continue to follow Joken until he’s ambushed by thieves.

After fending off the attackers, chase them west to where they’ve taken a sacred scroll vital to the ongoing peace talks. Defeat the thieves, recover the scroll, and return it to Joken to complete this mission.

Darkness Falls

As with most Shunbakufu assassinations, you’ll be locked into this quest once it begins, so make sure you’re prepared before starting.

First, find your partner outside Kofukuji Temple at the base of a large tree and decide who you want to proceed with. Yasuke’s path is easier at first, whereas Naoe’s is more dynamic. Either way, you’ll regain control of Yasuke in the middle of the quest and begiven another choicebefore your final assassination run.

Naoe’s Path

Since Naoe is disguised as Yasuke’s servant, she has no invitations to the peace talks. Instead, infiltrate the temple via rooftops and follow the blue objective markers to eavesdrop on suspicious soldiers.

Then, find a hidden note that points to a nearby sharpshooter. Take them out before they can carry out their grisly task.

Using smoke grenades can help you bypass guards without a fight.

Yasuke’s Path

Yasuke doesn’t need to sneak anywhere: simply walk in the front doors, easy as you please, and speak to the three leaders within to trigger the next phase where everyone witnesses Naoe foiling the sharpshooter’s assassination attempt.

You’ll be given an opportunity to accuse the mastermind behind everything: choose Joken to reveal the true killer, then defeat his ambush.

Defeating The Wise

Neither Naoe nor Yasuke has a aspecific advantage against Joken, but Naoe’s agility may make evading attacks easier en route to the monk. You can engage Jokken’s monks, but it may be safer to avoid them to conserve your rations for the actual bossfight.

In battle, Joken wields a poisoned katana that punishes failed parries, so focus on dodging instead of blocking.

Upon defeating The Wise, a final cutscene will hint at Kojiro’s true nature before the quest closes.

The rewards for defeating him are:

Each preceding quest in this chain also grants 1000 experience.
