It seems like no amount of controversy can hold a good assassin down.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows came out late last week, and it’s already become a sales success for the franchise, racking up over 2 million players within just its first two days of release, making it a bigger launch than both Assassin’s Creed Origins and Odyssey.
SteamDB places the game near the top of itsTrending GamesandPopular Releasescharts, and its all-time peak concurrent players on Steam have surpassed every other game in the series with 64,825 players, passing Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’s peak of 62,069 players, with “Very Positive” reviews.
That pace puts itcomfortably ahead of Monster Hunter Wilds in the UK, and the second-largest launch in the franchise after Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.
It also sold more physical copies in its first week than Ubisoft’s owncritical flop Star Wars Outlaws did in three months.

In response to the success of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Ubisoft posted a message on theAssassin’s Creed Subredditwith a heartfelt thanks to their fans.
This weekend, many of us on the Dev Team spent time reading your reactions across the Assassin’s Creed subreddit – and we just want to say thank you. The sheer amount of love and positivity we’ve received has been incredibly heartwarming.
They specifically point out onepost, and state that they’ve been keeping an eye on what players have been saying.
They close out the post by saying that it’s “just the beginning” for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, along with a reference to the actual creed of the in-game assassins.

It’s interesting to see that the game’s success seemingly wasn’t slowed down by the controversy it’s been subject to ever since its initial reveal, from peopleupset about the real-world historical existence of Yasuke, tobeing delayed multiple times, to evendrawing the attention of Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishibaleading to abig change in the day-one patch.
