The guide below breaks down all of Sparrow’s abilities and offers a few tips to help you master him and lead your squad to victory.
All of Sparrow’s Abilities, Explained
Likeall Legends in Apex Legends, Sparrow has access to three types of abilities: Passive, Tactical, and Ultimate. Each is detailed below.
Passive Ability: Double Jump
As the name suggests, Sparrow’s passive ability allows him to perform a double jump. While in mid-air, press your designated Jump button to leap once more. Additionally, pressing the Jump button while climbing a wall will propel Sparrow upward, making it easier to scale tall surfaces with added momentum.
As a fan of the Bocek Bow, Sparrow can also carry extra normal arrows and explosive arrows, giving him an edge in lengthier ranged combat.
Tactical Ability: Tracker Dart
Sparrow’s Tactical ability emphasizes his role as a Recon character. He can throw a Tracker Dart anywhere on the map, which highlights any enemy foolish enough to cross its line of sight.
By default, Sparrow can carry up to three Tracker Darts. This capacity can be increased through an Armor Upgrade (explained later). Like all Tactical abilities, Tracker Darts recharge over time — one dart is replenished every 35 seconds, up to the maximum capacity.

Only one Tracker Dart can be active on the battlefield at a time by default, but this limit can also be increased to three with the appropriate Armor Upgrade.
Additionally, Sparrow can use his Tracker Dart to remotely interact with Survey Beacons, allowing him to scan them from a distance without exposing himself to danger.
Ultimate Ability: Stringer Bolt
Sparrow’s Ultimate ability, the Stringer Bolt, is his most powerful tool. Once fired onto any surface, the bolt arms itself after a short delay and functions as a trap. Any enemy who enters its large radius will take 20 damage and be slowed, leaving them vulnerable to follow-up attacks.
By default, Sparrow can deploy one Stringer Bolt per Ultimate charge. However, this number can be increased to three through Armor Upgrades (explained later).
The cooldown for the Stringer Bolt is approximately 170 seconds.
Recon Class Ability
As a Recon Legend, Sparrow has access to class-specific abilities that, while not as flashy as his core kit, are still incredibly valuable and should not be overlooked.

Sparrow can interact with Survey Beacons scattered throughout the map. Once activated, these beacons reveal the location of all nearby enemies on your map for a short duration.

Sparrow’s Armor Upgrade
Upgrading Sparrow’s armor works just like it does for other Legends. Once you enhance your Evo Shield to Level 2, you’ll be able to choose one of two available upgrades. Reaching Level 3 provides another choice between two even more powerful upgrades.
Important: Once an upgrade is selected, it cannot be changed for the rest of the match.
