Zack Snyder made a name for himself diving into controversial lores and subjects that made Hollywood more uncomfortable than they’d like to admit. The director who brought a 100-year-old legacy studio to its knees is worth paying attention to and yet, Snyder’s own legacy remains colored by his misjudged and underrated classics.

With a portfolio that contains such visually artistic and revolutionary films as300,Watchmen,Justice League Snyder’s Cut, andRebel Moon, Zack Snyder could command any studio to lend him a project of his choice. But his difficult past makes him a high-risk individual in this ostentatious and superficial industry.
It’s no wonder that Snyder’s brilliance is often overshadowed by the dirty politics that help keep Hollywood relevant in the world of popular culture.

Zack Snyder deserves a place among auteurs
With a nose for the visually and aesthetically dynamic,Zack Snyderhas crafted one world after another that makes hardcore comic book fans go weak in their knees. His vision for the live-action world of comics is guided by a brutalist viewpoint that is not an easy pill for every fan to swallow. But, there exists a certain faction of the fandom who would kill to have Snyder’s incomplete blueprint for the 5-movie DCEU fulfilled.
The same fans have been in love withthe director’s uniquely sadistic visionsince the days of300andWatchmen. The latter among the pair was more controversial, and yet, the ones who liked the film loved it with a vehement and unwavering passion. Snyder rarely failed to display the morally stricken and disgustingly corrupt world at face value, but his timing has always been a bit off, and the audience he marketed his films to hasn’t always been receptive.

Despite his near-constant failure to bridge the gap between his view of how the world should be and the fans’ need for less extremist adaptations of comic books, Zack Snyder holds a special place in pop culture for his unorthodox skillset and love for the morbid and grotesque. As such, it would be a shame for him to not dip his fingers into the most morbid sandbox of all and recreate a film on the Holocaust with his distinctly grimdark stylistic choices.
Zack Snyder needs to step out of his comfort zone
It has been a long, uphill battle for Zack Snyder to get to where he is today. After the personal and professional devastation that he suffered in 2017, the director has recovered exponentially quickly, moving on to bring his version ofJustice League Snyder’s Cutto the masses and striking a deal with Netflix to finally craft his own rendition of Star Wars with the two-partRebel Moon.

With his ability to commandeer the screen, direct the emotional subtext of a story, and guide his cast to bring just the right amount of existential crisis to their characters, it’s high time Snyder took on more industry-sanctioned and critically responsive works likeSteven Spielberg‘s highly-favored World War II movies.
As put succinctly by a Reddit user:
Snyder has always been able to tap into the raw, unfiltered, grave, and sickening version of this world with clarity and candor that no other director has ever shown before. If he chooses to do a Holocaust movie, not only will Snyder forego the labels of a “comic book director” and a failed DC revolutionary, but it will once and for all solidify his position in the industry as a director worth his grain of salt.
