Possibly one of the biggest surprise hits of last year was Saber Interactive’sWarhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2. It could have been relatively easy for Saber to ride the Warhammer license and deliver a mediocre product, but what we got was a thumping campaign, and a compelling multiplayer experience that’s thriving up to this day.
Given its success, it’s natural for Games Workshop, the company behind the Warhammer license, to want more.

Games Workshop Remains Cautious in Expectations For Video Game Hits
In the company’s latestearnings report(viaGameSpot), Games Workshop CEO Kevin Rountree shared that revenue from video games came from “established games” and royalty income from the release of Space Marine 2 and Warhammer 40K: Speed Freeks.
Surprisingly, the company’s CEO isn’t short-sighted or delusional in expecting the same kind of success in each of their games, as Rountree states, “We recognize that successes like these for Warhammer are not a given in the world of video games. Clearly we are looking for the next one. We remain cautious when forecasting royalty income.”
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 was released on August 21, 2025 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, and it quickly climbed the charts, selling millions of copies before the year was over. The last milestone for the game that was made public was that it managed tohit 4.5 million players in October 2024. Of course, this doesn’t necessarily 4.5 million units were sold.

Over on Open Critic, Warhammer: Space Marine 2 is at a super impressive “Strong” rating with over 86% of critics recommending the action game.
Saber Interactive has been pushing updates to not only adjust the game’s balance, but also for new gameplay content that the devs promised would always be free. No word yet if Saber is working on Space Marine 3, but given this game’s success? I wouldn’t be surprised if they had already started it.
As for the next video game based on the Warhammer license, it’s being developed by Bulwark Studios and is titled Warhammer 40,000: Mechanics II, which is a sequel to the turn-based tactical game. There’s no release date yet, but it’s confirmed for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
