Update:More evidence suggesting that a newTony Hawk’s Pro Skatertitle is on the way has come forth thanks to an old podcast interview that has resurfaced after all of the talks about the rumors surrounding this. In an update (Thanks GamesRadar+) there has been a specific interview with professional skateboarder, Lizzie Armanto talking toThe Nine Club Podcastback in October 2019. Armanto was asked about her appearance inTony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5where she casually mentioned: “he’s coming out with another one, and I’ll be in that too.”
GamesRadar+ state that the part of the interview is at the 02:50:00 mark, but I’ve been unable to locate it, especially seeing as the interview ends at 02:17:00 mark. Although, they also state that other versions of the podcast have been edited to remove the comment made by Armanto. This kind of adds more credibility to the rumors.
Original Story:It appears that we could be seeing the return of those radical Tony Hawk skateboarding video games as rumors have started floating around that Activision is working on remakes of “skating” titles. The rumors come from a well-known industry insider called known asSabion Twitter. Earlier this month, Sabi mentioned there were mutterings of anew Activision remakebut didn’t have enough information to state anything.
The other day, Sabi tweeted the below tweet, heavily hinting that the remake would be skateboard related. Activision is very well known for theTony Hawk’s Pro Skatertitles, so the rumors seem to be pointing in the direction of those games. Especially seeing as Activision has recently published theCrash Bandicoot: N-Sane TrilogyandSpyro Reignited Trilogygames. Both games had the old PS1 versions remade for modern platforms.
Sabi went onto their Discord server todiscuss the rumorand shared that an employee at Activision had stated thatTony Hawk’s Pro Skater1 and 2 had demos remade and were only shared internally. It’s unclear if the games are being fully remade or if they’re just being created as a test for something else.
In 2018,Tony Hawk tweetedthat Activision owns the license for the games and that he is no longer working with them. However, if he had the power to make new games or reboot the servers for the old games he would. He actually did release a new game calledTony Hawk’s Skate Jamwhich was a mobile title created by Maple Media. Earlier this year in June 2019, it was revealed that Activision hadoffered to pay $500,000 in the late 1990s to buy-out his namefor future royalties. He turned it down and the series continued eventually earned over $1.4 billion in sales.
Additionally, it may not be related to the Activision rumors but Jackass star and skateboarder Steve-O, in June 2019 uploaded a video titled, “My Insane New Camper Van Tour with Bam Margera!” in which he reunites with skateboarder Bam Margera. The two. around the 6:30 mark go off to meet Tony Hawk and tease a “top-secret” plan. Steve-O and Bam Margera were characters in theTony Hawks Underground 2title. Of course, Jackass is also approaching its 20th anniversary, so it could just be that.
There’s not really much else known about these rumors or if anything will come from the remade demos floating around internally at Activision, but I’d personally rather see a new Tony Hawk’s game than a remaster. Just please, no more weirdly shaped skateboard controllers.
What are your thoughts on this rumor? Would you want to see a new Tony Hawk title, be that a remake or a brand new title?
