With a fresh take on the hero shooter genre, the game is going to be a big competitor for the likes of Overwatch. And if you’re one of the thousands of new players looking to get a piece of the Marvel action, we’ve got you covered. Here are five essential tips to kickstart yourMarvel Rivalsjourney.

1Make Sure You Get Some Practice in the Range First

With a roster of 33 heroes available from day one,Marvel Rivalswill be overwhelming for everyone. Because of this, spending time in the practice range is a must. Take the time to explore each hero’s abilities, practice aiming, and test strategies without the pressure of an online match. Think of it as building your foundation, time well spent in practice pays off in matches.

2Marvel RivalsBrings Team-Up Abilities, Use Them Wisely

One ofMarvel Rivals’ most unique features is its Team-Up Abilities, which provide unique bonuses when specific heroes are paired together. For instance, combining Scarlet Witch and Magneto enhances Magneto’s sword attacks, while Rocket Raccoon gains additional defense when paired with Groot.

While these synergies are powerful, don’t base your entire strategy around them. Success comes from adapting to the situation and playing to your strengths, even if you don’t have the perfect combos. Let natural synergy supplement your gameplay rather than dictate it.

3There Are Roles, Understand and Pick Yours

Every hero inMarvel Rivalsfalls into one of three categories: Duelist, Strategist, or Vanguard. Duelists are your damage dealers (DPS), Strategists provide healing and support, and Vanguards absorb damage and protect teammates.

While the game doesn’t have strict role distributions at launch, try to verify your team has at least one Strategist. Healers can turn the tide of battle, especially against skilled opponents. If no one steps into the support role, consider switching to help your team stay in the fight longer.

4Always Include a Healer on Your Team

As we mentioned,Marvel Rivalsdoesn’t enforce rigid role queuescompared to games likeOverwatch. This allows players to form unconventional teams which will often be chaotic. But regardless of your strategy, having a healer is a top priority. Strategist characters are the buffers and healers that can make or break a match by keeping the team alive during critical moments.

5For All The Spider-Man and Venom Players – Disable Easy Swing

If you’re playing as Spider-Man or Venom, you’ll notice a feature called Easy Swing, which automatically attaches your web to the nearest surface. While this setting is helpful for beginners learning the game’s complex movement mechanics, it limits your strategic options as you progress.

To disable Easy Swing, go to the Settings menu under the Combat tab, select the hero, and toggle the feature off. Turning it off gives you complete control over where and how you swing, enabling precise positioning for flanking or initiating attacks. Practice this new skill in training mode before heading into matches to get used to the difference.

Marvel Rivalshas successfully distinguished itself from other hero shooters and is a new opportunity for strategy and creativity. The game’s early success suggests a bright future, and with regular updates and new content, it’s an exciting time to jump in.
